The Merchant's Yard, hotel in Stoney Middleton

Set in Tideswell, 12 km from Buxton Opera House, The Merchant's Yard offers accommodation with a shared lounge, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant.

We had an excellent stay at the Merchants Yard for my partners birthday. Very clean and modern, the special touches were appreciated. The breakfast was delicious, and we had food in the evening which was also superb. All staff were fabulous, and explained everything and looked after us. We booked the hotel for the electric charging facility, and were impressed to be given our own allocated space. Tideswell is very peaceful and a great location to walk to Millers Dale, and easy to drive to a variety of places for amazing walks and sights.we did arrive for the annual food festival which was entertaining, but otherwise a very quiet place.

    The bar area was lovely.

The bar area was lovely. The food could have been better to reflect the prices charged. It was not clear that the breakfast included, was the continental breakfast, which co.sisted of croissants only. The cooked breakfast is an extra charge. The room was adequate but, to be helpful, I stripped the bed on leaving & found that the pillow protectors were stained yellow & there was a blood stain on the mattress protector! The carpet could have done with hoovering before we arrived. No problem with parking for us. Staff were very friendly & our dog got a sausage from the chef every morning 😀 Coffee & tea provided in the room & I was delighted to find there was a hairdryer. Bathroom very clean with great shower. Chip shop just up the road with very generous portions. After the first night, we ate our own food as food in the bar was quite expensive. We took a walk to Curbar Edge & a drive to the highest distillery in England, The Cat & Fiddle, which was very nice to have a drink in. Bakewell not too far away. We only stayed for 3 nights & unfortunately, the weather was awful but it made for a nice break.

Food was poor. Served mouldy pie. Food overpriced.

Food was poor. Served mouldy pie. Food overpriced. Staff were watching tv in the mornings - unprofessional. Blinds in shower room and bedroom were past their best. Sealant around taps was black. Quilt was way too thick- sweltered. Great location for sight seeing but some noise from the road.

nothing much to do really. very small village on a main route, but after five minutes you have seen it all. A bit off the beaten track unless you are there to trek or cycle. Grindleford or better stillHathersage have much more to offer

The property was well-decorated, homely and comfortable, with a great temperature. It is very well-located within the Peak District. There was a key safe so we could check in when it was convenient for us. We would definitely recommend!

A pretty village with some excellent options for eating and drinking in the area. I would recommend the Derwentwater Arms in Calver and the French restaurant called Piedaniels in Bakewell. The village is close to Chatsworth House and Bakewell

Stony Middleton is well placed for exploring the Peak District. It is located on and off a main road, forming a really delightfully charming village with a church, carrier stream, beautiful period housing, a small Roman bath (under renovation), fields with footpaths and wooded hillside.
