Breakfast was very well cooked and there was a good choice. Though we didn’t eat lunch or dinner there, the afternoon tea we saw someone eating on the first day, looked amazing.

King's Lynn Caravan & Camping Park, hotel in Shouldham Thorpe

Set in 10 acres of mature parkland, the site is situated on the edge of the village of North Runcton, 1.5 miles from the Hardwick roundabout where the A47, A10, A149 and A17 meet.

It was a nice spacious pod for the 2 of us in a rural setting..It sounds silly but there were plenty of plug sockets,I've stayed in a pod before and you have to keep swapping things around all the time.

Belle Vue Guest House, hotel in Shouldham Thorpe

Featuring a garden and views of garden, Belle Vue Guest House is a guest house situated in a historic building in Denver, 40 km from Houghton Hall.

Belle Vue is a beautiful, chic guesthouse with great attention to detail. The bed linen is crisp and fresh, the pillows fluffy and light. The ensuite offered a large powerful shower and the complementary shower gels and body cream were a real treat.  After a great night's sleep, you are treated to a delicious breakfast to set you up for the day ahead. I chose the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. The eggs were cooked to perfection. Fresh coffee and orange juice was also served, but there is a choice of other beverages. As a woman traveling alone, it is important to feel safe and secure when staying in unfamiliar surroundings. I felt completely safe. My only disappointment was leaving. I could have stayed for longer.

Chalk & Cheese is in the village of Shouldham, and not in Shouldham Thorpe, which is nearby. The village has a lovely traditional "green" with a bench seat surrounding a large tree, an old red phone box (still working) and it appears that there were originally two pubs. One, The Rampant Horse is now a private dwelling. Opposite, the Kings Arms is run as a community pub by the villagers. Chalk & Cheese is owned by the proprietors of the adjacent antique and gifts business. In the village there is a post office, but no shop. At least two houses sell fresh eggs by the roadside. There is a social and bowls club, a village hall and a lovely church overlooking the village from a hill. There is also a playing field with goalposts for football and some childrens' play apparatus. We spoke to two or three locals around the green, who were very welcoming. There is a classic car meet on the green on the first Sunday of the month during the summer.

The thought and originality invested in the comfort and convenience of the accomodation was outstanding and the hosts were attentive, communicative and helpful. We enjoyed a pleasant evening at The Kings Arms and had our stay been longer, would undoubtedly have found other equally agreeable places to eat and drink.
