Liked the pool, though only managed to use it once as the timings meant it was shut when we returned early evening. Love the decor, friendly staff, clean rooms. Very accommodating in restaurant when I asked for vegan options.

The Continental Hotel, Derby, hotel in Shardlow

Situated just 20 minutes' walk from the city centre of Derby, the The Continental Hotel, Derby offers free WiFi throughout.

The drive down to the car park is very steep with quite tight spaces but OK. The walk back up to reception would be quite difficult for older people or with lots of luggage but fine for a one night stop. The receptionist was very potite and helpful but there is no lift to the upper floors., The stairs are quite steep and narrow. We were on teh second floor. The room was small but contained everything needed for a good nights sleep. The decor could do with a refresh. The shower gave plentiful hot water at a good flow rate. The bed was a small double but comfortable enough. Nice clean fluffy towels. The breakfast was well presented, buffet style with all the ingredients of for a full English and cereals, yoghurt and fruit available. Vey nice coffee The evening meal the night before was the highlight of our stay. The tastiest Indian food I've had for a long time. Very attentive staff and good value, particul;arly applying the resident discount. I will definately stay here again when in the area.

We were visiting relatives who live in Shardlow and were lucky enough to be there when the Inland Port Festival was taking place. We had an excellent meal in the Clock Ware house and drinks. We enjoyed a drink at New Inn, The Malt Shovel and Shakespeare Inn. We had a walk along the canal and surrounding area. We had a canal boat trip which was really good. Our stay overall was wonderful.

Mainly spread along a busy road, a few decent size pubs along the way and one very large Marston eatery, and a curry house that does not have a drink licence, whatever next☹️. Had to get a drink, at the pub across the road, and take it in, then return the glasses later.🤔 Another couple of eateries down on the canal area. There is also a museum that tells you about the area, which I believe was once what they call an inland harbour. All in all, it's nice to walk round, have a meal and a beer here n there and, once away from the busy road, enjoy the canal walks.
