The Rose Cottage Inn, hotel in Selmeston

Set in Selmeston, 9.2 km from Glyndebourne Opera House, The Rose Cottage Inn offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking and a terrace.

A fine location on the Old Way pilgrim trail, which we were following, plus the numerous pathways on the South Downs. It was tucked away and quiet. The accommodation was pristine and new.

Chalk Farm LDC, hotel in Selmeston

Chalk Farm LDC is situated in Willingdon in Eastbourne, 28 km from Brighton & Hove. The hotel has a sun terrace and views of the garden, and guests can enjoy a drink at the bar.

The building was very old and full of character located within a working farm. There is plenty of outside space and a limited bar. Brilliant location just a miles to Eastbourne and the Beach.

Wingrove House, hotel in Selmeston

Set in Alfriston, 13 km from Glyndebourne Opera House, Wingrove House offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a bar.

This was recommended by the friend I went with and it didn't disappoint. A lovely country house hotel. Comfortable with a high level of service and accommodation but very friendly and inviting. We had dinner there on our second night and the manager of the restaurant was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I will definitely return.

Our ground floor apartment was very clean and well equipped. We didn’t make use of all the cooking facilities but they were plentiful. It would suit people staying for longer than our one night which was far too short. There were tables and chairs outside with gorgeous views of the South Downs. Places to visit would be Charleston House and Berwick Church, both fairly nearby. There plenty of information on places to eat, shop etc in the apartment, and David and Val would also give advice on where to go, walks and so on.

This is a small village setting with easy access to walks on the South Downs. Or a short trip to Lewes, Brighton or Eastbourne. There are plenty of things you can visit from this location. We stayed to visit family so know the area very well.

We enjoyed being able to visit friends & family in the Brighton area. It was great to take our dogs with us, some lovely walks around the village and walks on the downs, beautiful views especially high and over. Also great to visit Alfriston, so historic. Originally from Sussex & so love coming back to the countryside & lovely Sussex people.

Easy access with the A27 or station at Berwick, although you'll need to book a cab in advance. The Rose Cottage in Alciston's well placed for Lewes with its castle, cafes and antique shops as well as for Alfriston with Drusillas Zoo and its own boutiques and restaurants to choose from. Alciston has a beautiful church and walks, and you're surrounded by downland and villages like Firle to explore. The opera house at Glyndbourne and historic Charlston are nearby, whilst Middle Farm's a treasure trove of local produce including wine.

The village and surrounding areas were beautiful, and so relaxing. Great for getting away and waking up to birds singing. The local pubs were great for food and catered for kids. Lots of places to see.
