Perfect venue for investigating mid Wales and the Elan Valley. Small town but has everything you need for a self catering holiday, the right shops and takeaways if you want them, but if you prefer to go out and be fed, all the pubs serve food. Astonishing area with the mountains, rivers and general countryside. Couldn't ask for more

Five pubs within a stones throw of each other in the main square. My kind of town. The Crown was excellent and recommended by three different random strangers Best stocked co-op I’ve ever seen 😆 Friendly people in the shops and pubs.

The Triangle has good food and proper beer.

The Triangle has good food and proper beer. Also The Lamb and Flag serves a good pint of Cwrw. You must visit the 5 reservoirs whatever the weather. We only managed 2 on our 3 day visit as the weather was poor. However as it rained so much the overtopping of Claerwen dam was spectacular to see and hear.

Everything you could need is there.

Everything you could need is there. Friendly welcoming community. Excellent pubs, cafes and takeaways. Good shops. Prices very good. Lots of places to visit.localy. Remember there's no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing. Everywhere is dog friendly.. We love Elan, great visitor centre, with gift shop, not overpriced and a coffee shop with great food, dog and child friendly. Great place to burn off excess energy, walk, bike,or run. Cheap parking, free hour or £3 all day. Lots of wild life and facilities for disabled people.

We came to Rhayader to go round the Elan Valley dams as we do each New Year. This time we decided to stay overnight and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in spite of the torrential rain. Whilst we enjoyed bed and breakfast at The Bear, we dined in the Crown in the evening where the food was excellent and the beer was good as well. The staff were great at the Bear and the Crown. The Elan Valley and its dams, built to supply Birmingham with water and opened about 120 years ago, just a mile of two from Rhayader are well worth a visit to see the Victorian engineering. The Visitor Centre, as well as serving brilliant bacon baps and a cuppa, also houses a museum and shop where there is so much information about building the dams and the things that you can do in the valley like walking, cycling, bird watching and much more. We had a good time there.

Hafod Hardware shop is a must as its sells an eclectic mix of items and a visit to the tearoom by the clock tower. The only negative would be the lack of understanding of most drivers on how to negotiate the roads around the clock tower !

Lovely modern house in the centre of Rhayader, but set back from the road so no traffic noise. Spotlesly clean, comfortable and well equipped. Co-op store over the road to pick up supplies. Several pubs / restaurants and a couple of take-aways in the village to take your pick from. Very close to the attractions we had targetted for visiting (Red Kite Feeding Centre - 5 minutes away, and Elan Valley - 10 minutes away). Warm welcome from our host (Sian), and easy and efficient check-in and check-out.

This place is located on the road between Rhayader village and the dams. It’s secluded and quiet. The village itself is fairly busy and noisy so the quiet is great. Our room was at the back part of the house. Very roomy with a huge bed. Everything was clean and very comfortable, other than the bathroom. The hosts do serve a limited menu dinner which was not outrageously priced and was quite good. Breakfast was excellent. The hosts, including their old dog, are helpful, friendly and worth a chat.

Lovely location in the centre of Rhayader so very convenient for shopping or going out for meals. The house is set back from the road and so is very quiet. The area for parking is spacious and there was outdoor seating (suitable for meals outdoors) at both the front and back of the house. The house was very modern, nicely furnished and the kitchen facilities were excellent. The wifi worked really well too. Overall the house was outstanding value for money.

Idyllic location for a relaxing break. Perfect for dog walking. Cottage had a lovely enclosed back garden so our dog could roam free. The cottage was beautiful, spacious with everything we needed. Our 4 night stay was perfect - so many walks we never did the same 1 twice. The village of Rhayader is sweet, pubs and tearooms and Riverside walks. Accessible from a nice walking trail so again, great for dogs. I'd definitely recommend 👌

The staff were fantastic and the hotel is in a beautiful location. We really enjoyed our stay. If you are bringing a dog, the ground floor bedroom has a door that takes you onto a grassy area. Great for letting the dog out for a quick break before bed.
