Martyrs Bay Rooms, hotel in Pennyghael

Located in Iona, Isle of Mull region, Martyrs Bay Rooms is situated 600 metres from Iona Abbey.

We were made to feel incredibly welcome by our host Sandra who came and met myself and my grandma off the ferry. We were both given a room upgrade when we arrived and the rooms were bright, clean, warm and modern, with big windows giving a beautiful view of Iona. At breakfast we had a range of continental options, including freshly baked scones from a baker on the island. Sandra was there to ensure we had everything we needed and gave us some excellent recommendations about things to see on the island. When we were too stuffed to finish our brekkie she even made two of the scones up for us to take away with us which was very kind! The rooms both had an en suite with a modern bathroom and great water pressure in the shower. The rooms had coffee and tea facilities and were really cosy. It was only a short visit for us this year but my grandma and I loved our stay and are already making plans to return in May next year! Thanks so much again Sandra for doing such a good job of looking after us!

    A great place to stay.

A great place to stay. Very comfortable, private, warm and cosy. Mull is awesome so I’d recommend a visit. My only negative was that I assumed they had internet but they didn’t. So we couldn’t check to see what was open on the island. We couldn’t book anything remotely and it works have been nice to read about the island while we were there but with no internet that wasn’t an option.

The hotel seemed well appointed and with a good level of accommodation. The views from the room were splendid as were the hosts who made us feel very welcome. The food was cooked to perfection, even if there wasn't a large choice.

The hotel was a super base for exploring Mull.

The hotel was a super base for exploring Mull. It is halfway from the ferry to the western tip to visit Iona, but you can also explore the northern part and visit Tobermory. There is so much to see if you like wild life and bird life and the hotel owners and staff are very informative as to the best places to go to see the different birds. We ate in the hotel each night and the menus, although limited, was presented well and freshly cooked to order. there are only 3 main roads on Mull so it is easy to access them all from Pennygael so you can explore the whole of Mull from the hotel.
