Booking procedure. Room comfortable. Staff courteous. Historic character of property. Schoolchildren's artwork on walls in rooms and corridors - v high standard.
This charming traditional coaching inn is a Grade II historical registry listed building and still retains many of its beautiful original features, such as exposed wooden beams.

Dog friendly is an understatement, they were so accommodating to us and our rather filthy dog having walked Offa's Dyke that day. Lovely big room and enjoyed the bath!

Breakfast was self-catering which was ideal for me since I don't like fitting with hotel timetables and don't always want a huge cooked meal. Bread, butter, milk and coffee were provided in the annex, along with excellent jams. Refills were no problem for the hosts. The room was very quiet.

Beautiful setting, the room was pretty, clean , and comfortable. Sophia was amazing in communicating for an after hours check in. The breakfast was delicious and the whole stay was perfect. Would stay here again for sure!

We arrived too late for a shopping trip through the town but it looked interesting enough to make another trip during the day. We had an inside meal in the Chippy by the gateway into the town and it was very good. I think that it would be an interesting town to explore and there is the river to check out as well. It looks like you can even park in the town which must be a rare bonus. We would have liked to see some of the historic sites but sadly we were basically only staying overnight.

Monmouth is a lovely town with lots of shops, market, places to eat and theatres. We stayed to go to the theatre and had an excellent evening show with Alfie Moore. There are excellent butcher shops and M&as food . There are lovely riverside walks and further afield the Forest of Dean to explore.

Monmouth itself is very pretty and quite touristy. We didn't spend too much time there but explored the countryside and villages around. We went to Symonds Yat, Tintern Abbey, Chepstow and a couple of castles. What a beautiful area. This area is also quite food-y. In fact the small restaurant we used on our first evening had a Michelin star - how lucky was that?

There isn't much to do here, but the point of our trip is always the same, so we do get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
People are so friendly and helpful. The only place I know where around 80% of the population say good morning, and acknowledge you.
Two definite recommendations - if going in August head to Harts (fantastically discounted bras and swimwear for the ladies), and don't leave without going to Coffee Lab. Superb!

Monmouth is a lovely small town, with an excellent array of shops, including many small specialised enterprises, some interesting historic buildings, beautiful countryside around and also very friendly people. There is plenty to do and see in the town and it is a great centre for visiting cities such as Cardiff, Hereford, Cheltenham and Bristol. Not far from Monmouth is Symonds Yat, on the border between England and Wales, and some fantastic border castles such as Goodrich, Skenfrith and the White Castle. Road links too are very good.

Monmouth is a great base for visiting the area with many sights and attractions close by.
La Piccola Italian restaurant is fantastic.
Excellent food and service - it was the highlight of our holiday!
Queens Head Inn was in a good location, a short 2-3 min walk to the Main Street and all other amenities. A historic building with all the olde world character you could wish for. Our room was comfortable, the breakfast excellent and Neil was full of information about the local area. A truly dog friendly pub too. So if you want a few nights in Monmouth or to break up a longer journey we would recommend the Queens Head Inn as a very good value for money place to stay - we certainly will if in the area again.
John's Lookout was the perfect property for our stay in Monmouth. The location was perfect - a few minutes walk into the town and very easily accessible to get onto the motorway. The view was absolutely amazing and the neighbourhood was quiet. The actual house was a home away from home with all the modern amenities and very nice finishes complete with outdoor entertainment area.
Excellent room with nearby paid parking that required meter feeding. The location in the middle of Monmouth couldn't have been better. Breakfast not included but being a Wetherspoons owned hotel, downstairs served the usual excellent and good value breakfast menu. The room and bathroom - all newly modernised were excellent.
Absolutely lovely place to stay. Wonderful hosts, big room with huge en-suite and comfy bed. Was only there for one night, but would return in a heartbeat! Missed breakfast as had to make an early start, but it smelt and looked amazing.
Much better than a mainstream hotel. A great find. Well done folks!!
This is a pub with rooms. The hotel looks a bit distressed from the outside but the room was fine. Its a short walk into Monmouth, about 10 mins. The wifi was not working when I arrived but was quickly fixed. Breakfast was the usual choice of cereals and variations on a full cooked breakfast.

Staff friendly and helpful. They were in a bit of a catch 22 situation as the hotel was just about to close for refurbishment for 4 weeks and so had no other facilities or food provision available. This was explained up front so not too much of a problem.
Excellent breakfast served by a charming team - everyone we met all weekend was lovely. Location is dead centre of Monmouth so perfect for rambling out in any direction. Room has style and taste, great having the bath and shower combination.
Neil was so friendly and interesting. The place is full of history and character and if you're looking to stay somewhere other than a typical hotel, then this place is for you. Original fireplaces from the 16th century. Amazing!
Hotel was of good standard, bed a little too firm for me but bathroom clean and adequate. Building appears to have a slight tilt, room appeared to tilt slightly to one side along with some of the corridors.
Lovely hotel .we love the breackfast .everything you needed was there. And staff are very welcoming .. so near the town 5 min walk .Great parking .Thankyou
