The Hope & Anchor Restaurant & Rooms, hotel in Lea

Situated in Ross on Wye, 28 km from Kingsholm Stadium, The Hope & Anchor Restaurant & Rooms features accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant.

The view is fantastic, breakfast was delicious 😋 The room was clean and modern. It would be great if there was a chair in the room so we could admire the view but we only booked a small room last minute so that may be why. We had a brilliant time, Ross on Wye is a lovely place to visit, the walk into the town is quick and there is a fab bakery round the corner which we would recommend. Big car park made it really easy.

It’s where I spent a lot of time as a teenager with my best friend who lived on the side of a hill just outside the village. Even taking into account the way times have changed since the early 70’s it a lovely local rural village. The main road through the village is busy now but I stayed in a quaint local haunted??? pub with the village stores opposite and a cheap petrol supply up the road. What more can you want? It is extremely quiet at night when the traffic stops and an excellent area to stay in if you want to explore the Wye or Severn Valley’s or the Forest of Dean. Gloucester is less than 20 miles away if you like Historic cities, Not quite like York but it was where Harry Potter had some if his adventures at the Cathedral. An excellent shopping centre if that’s your thing. You are unlikely to find the bright lights of Blackpool but there is plenty to do. Try the Railway Centre at Lydney or the views at Symonds Yat near Coleford. There’s a coal mine near Coleford which takes you under ground to see what mining was like over 100 years ago and Clearwell caves to explore. I sound like a tourist brochure but I can assure you I lived in the the Forest of Dean for the first 20 years of my life and in many ways it is still the place I remember except it is now much more up to date and not as far behind as is was back then. Try it out and enjoy a truly magical place to visit. It’s an area small enough to explore in a week or two but look out for the sheep, slow down and enjoy being away from the rat race.

Although drab and cluttered the room was very clean.

Although drab and cluttered the room was very clean. When we arrived the receptionist showed us to a room but before we entered it she thought it was not right yet so so showed us to another room which we spent the night. Room next to busy road which was noisy until after midnight. So had a bad nights sleep After we booked in and returned to reception found that the room had been doubled booked and had we been later then the chances are we would have not been staying at the hotel. Dissappointed when told they did not do a cooked breakfast (the highlight of any stay in a hotel) and what they offered was not appealing. When we got back to the hotel later that evening we were told that the we would not be charged for breakfast. But we had then made alternative arrangements

We enjoyed our stay in the cottage. The cottage was very comfortable, clean , tidy and warm. It had a very cosy homely atmosphere. The central heating was very good and there was plenty of hot water. The shower was really good. The kitchen had all the necessary equipment needed and the bedrooms were nice and spacious.and the beds very comfortable. The cottage was in walking distance to the village shop and in a good location for travelling around the wye valley. It was a pity the village restaurant/pub was closed down.

The cottage is immaculately presented, clean and comfortable. Welcome pack was a lovely surprise , generous and high quality. We felt like we were staying in a 5 star luxury hotel with lovely toiletries and thick, cosy bathrobes. Our hosts made us feel very welcome and at home , they had clearly thought carefully about all those little extras that guests appreciate.

Our yurt was lovely, comfortable and clean. Other facilities like the kitchen, toilets and washing up area were good. Good local shop on the doorstep. Good outdoor space for kids to play/dog to run about. Staff were helpful and pleasant when contacted. Log burner was lovely to have and great that we could get a starter kit after we arrived.
