This was one of the best places I have ever stayed at. Margot was an exceptional host with every fine detail considered. The B and B was warm and welcoming with a traditional aesthetic. Everything was spotlessly clean, the bedroom and bathroom accommodated all of our needs, the linens were of great quality and the bed was very comfortable. Even though it was the front bedroom onto the road the room was very peaceful. The breakfast was delicious with so many delicious options to choose from: all food was well sourced. The dining room was exquisite: the table was laid beautifully with the open fire roaring on a dreary Sunday morning. Margot catered for a gluten free diet too. Overall it was an exceptional B and B and would highly recommend.

Lauder is a great village with everything you need. Spotty Dog for coffee and a Scotch egg, Flat Cat Gallery for gift shopping and cake. There is a butchers, post office, pharmacy and co-op. As well as a beautiful church, castle and surrounding areas with lots of history and natural beauty. An underrated gem

Excellent accommodation within a beautiful building of great historical significance and set in magnificent countryside. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful making our stay relaxing and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend the castle tour. Our guide (Norman) had a wealth of knowledge with regard to both the castle itself and the Maitland family who have occupied it over the centuries.

The location was great for visiting the Scottish Borders.
The location was great for visiting the Scottish Borders.
A good variety of places in Lauder to dine out.
There is good bus services to Edinburgh + other towns in the Borders.
The bus stops are just outside the apartment.
This is an lovely place to stay Margot was especially welcoming with our little dog . So nice to find a b&b of this quality that doesn’t mind having a well behaved dog to stay. We took a train from a nearby station 20 mins drive into Edinburgh. Enjoyed a sightseeing bus trip and then back to Lauder were we continued our journey the following day having slept in a lovely room with a comfy bed and excellent breakfast.
We just needed a bed for the night in Lauder and this place was fine for what we wanted. It was easy to find (on west high street) and it was no problem to park right outside it.The heating was easy to use and it had all the things we needed in the kitchen. It has a pulley and we used it to put all our wet clothes on (they were soaking after nearly 4 hrs of walking in the rain).Nice hot power shower.
lovely breakfast, cooked for both mornings. comfortable eating areas, with a fire in a wood burner.. lovely on a cold morning. clean and comfortable room, facing the street but quiet. We arrived back on Sunday night after 9 to find the hotel closed , so no chance of a drink/snack. Apart from that, a great place to stay, central in the Borders.
Had an excellent stay at the Lauderdale Hotel. The lady who runs the hotel was really friendly and the service was great. Our room was spacious and had everything we needed. The bathroom was well equipped with a large shower. If I ever find myself needing accommodation in Lauder again I will definitely choose to stay here again.
Amazing stay! We stayed in the sculleries, the rooms were extremely comfortable, very clean. The castle is set in lovely grounds, a great place to unwind. We couldn't have asked for anything better. The location was ideal for exploring the local area. The Black Bull in Lauder was a great place to eat out.
Lauder was our base and we visited several tourist attractions up to an hour’s drive away.
The apartment was very comfortable and we so enjoyed our stay. Three very large bedrooms and bathrooms all of a very high standard. Walked the castle and river walks. They even opened the gift shop for us.
I am a retired professional chef and hotel manager for Hyatt hotels and rarely am I so impressed with a facility to the degree that I am with the Black Bull. If the opportunity presents itself you must stay here and will not be disappointed whatsoever.
Lovely property, decorated beautifully with a superb shower.
Two good size double rooms.
Everything we could needed was provided. We travel to Lauder a couple of times a year and this was one of the best accommodations we have stayed in.
The hotel was excellent, very nice interior, well appointed, comfortable room, excellent food, great service and friendly staff and owners. A great base for exploring the Scottish Borders. I would gladly stay again if in the area.
The staff were so friendly and helpful. The hotel is exceptionally clean and we had a lovely view from the back of the hotel. The breakfasts were very nice and there was a good choice of evening meals. Would definitely return!
The most friendly and welcoming hosts you could wish to meet. They have a passion for what they do, for their superbly appointed hotel and their guests. Excellent food.
Old characterful hotel. Restaurant food was exceptional. King size room was very comfortable and worth the little extra on the price. Staff were all very good as well.
