The Rose and Crown is everything you would hope for in an old country inn, warm, welcoming, pleasing decor, even friendly local customers who greeted us with smiles. There were no Incan ruins in Hinton Charterhouse.

This is a review update . originally only issue was the pub/coffee shop was closed on Mondays which wasn't clear on booking.com in turn our 1 night was spent with a co-op meal deal and watching a very small TV. However the main reason for the discontent is the emails from the management blaming us for the things we were not happy with . Not once did they accept our honest opinion of our trip . We said nothing particularly bad about the place , in fact in some areas we were complimentary . The facts are the pub was closed , not clear at all on booking .com , but according to the management of the Rose and Crown that was our fault . When we pointed out it wasn't made clear to us that the pub would be closed during our stay in the reply to their personal email to us guess what ? it was still our fault . It also says pets are free but they are not . We were honest about our stay as requested . Will not be visiting the Rose & Crown again whilst under this current management . We had very little contact face to face at the time but the emails received from them are very rude indeed. what is the point of requesting reviews if people don't want an honest answer . Lots of people have had a good experience here so that's great , but we were disappointed and felt a bit cheated that the pub was closed , that is a fact . But overriding this is the what we believe to be rude emails from the management to us . Not happy.

We really liked the friendly welcome and attention during our evening meal and breakfast. The food was good both the evening meal and breakfast. We had sourdough, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast. The eggs were cooked just right and the smoked salmon delicious. It was not at all expensive which made it even better value for money. Nigel, Shaun and the team go out if their way to look after you. Nigel says they only opened in early 2019. They work really hard and our experience shows it's paying off. Good luck for the future guys, it should be a bright one.
