Burton Hotel, hotel in Hergest

Set within a modernised coaching inn, the family-run Burton Hotel is a residence situated on the Offa’s Dyke footpath in the small market town of Kington, which lies on the Welsh border.

From the moment I arrived, the staff were friendly and helpful. My stay was a stopover during a solo walking holiday and the duty manager was thoughtful, making recommendations relevant to my stay (offering to carry my rucksack, we used the lift to reach the room and he showed my the fantastic swimming pool and leisure facilities). I ordered dinner to my room which was delicious, well-presented and great value. I would definitely stay again.

The Smithy, hotel in Hergest

Situated in Hay-on-Wye and only 3.5 km from Clifford Castle, The Smithy features accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking.

Perfect for what myself and my sister were wanting; a place to relax after sightseeing and being on the road travelling for several days. Little touches like a hot water bottle I really enjoyed not because it was cold but soothing to an aching back. We’d been staying in a range of accommodation from five star hotels to little b&bs and the breakfast at the Smithy by far the best.

awful room in Lower house farm should not be let!

awful room in Lower house farm should not be let! Full of owners clothes and personal belongings. No locks on doors felt insecure and vulnerable for ourselves and our belongings. Dirty, worn bathroom facilities. Be careful where you choose to stay.

The B&B is in the countryside.

The B&B is in the countryside. The roads are single lane, but not busy, and care has to be taken driving them. The views are stunning. If you are seeking a very peaceful, dog (pet) friendly retreat. This B&B is a great option. It's also close to Hay-on-Wye

Very peaceful village in outstanding countryside on Welsh border, a get a way from it all location - rest up or go walking, painting or just read a book - small towns nearby for shops or Hay-on-Wye for books and Hereford only 30min away.

Wonderful walking country up on Hergest Ridge with views...

Wonderful walking country up on Hergest Ridge with views over the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons to the south, the Radnorshire Beacon to the west and north to the Shropshire Hills from up on top; not to mention all the way to the Malverns in the east. Down in the valley, there is the great little pub at Gladestry which, with new owners, is turning out some impressive food and the welcome was just great. There is also The Swan in Huntingdon, a classic old pub run by a lovely lady who serves everything in the bottle (No food, other than maybe a packet of crisps :-)). And Kington with it’s pubs and shops and the amazing gardens of Hergest Croft is just 3 miles away.
