The staff were excellent: they were friendly and professional. The room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Excellent to have a little sofa area to watch tv. The food was wonderful.; fantastic range of choices for breakfast which was beautifully cooked and presented.

Dowfold House Bed and Breakfast, hotel in Fir Tree

Featuring a garden and views of garden, Dowfold House Bed and Breakfast is a bed and breakfast situated in a historic building in Crook, 26 km from Beamish Museum.

Ample parking was available. The hosts are helpful, considerate, and lovely people to stay with. There are many small touches throughout the house and the room that made me feel welcome, including fresh cut flowers in the room and in the common areas. The breakfast room and separate lounge are beautifully decorated, a pleasure to sit in and enjoy. Breakfasts are superb, better than most and very flexible with the choices on offer, with home-made jams and honey.

The bed was comfortable, the heating in the room could be controlled to our liking, the shower was lovely and the tea and coffee making facilities had a lot of choice with the addition of biscuits! Breakfast was also lovely both mornings and the staff were friendly.

We had a 4 night stay there to compete in an archery competition for 2 days, and see a bit of the area for the other two. Great location for seeing Durham, the local small towns/villages, and getting out to the Dales. Even the coast towns not very far away. We ate every meal in The Fir Tree, and had something different every meal, all excellent qualitty. Breakfasts were superb. Easy free carparking, right outside our room, but an open "pub" carpark, so not "secure" but in a very quiet area, so felt safe. Lovely staff who really worked hard, were friendly and proactive in sorting out any problems, including two days grab and go breakfasts when our competition meant the start was too early for an 8am wekend breakfast. Cannot recommend this place highly enough

It was nice that there were plenty of car parks. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was small and basic but clean and comfortable. However the walls are very thin and you can hear people in their bathrooms in their bedrooms which isn’t pleasant!

The hotel is superbly situated for visiting Crook and the surrounding areas. The hotel is modern and comfortable and the staff are all friendly and helpful. Breakfast really does set you up for the day. The bedroom although smaller than expected was more than adequate for our needs and the bed was so comfortable. Nice modern shower room too. Well worth the money

We used as a base, to eat, sleep and visit. Our trip was sightseeing. The fir tree was ideal for this. The room was small but suitable for our needs. Decor throughout was excellent Great food you don't need to look for anywhere else as there is plenty of choice, reasonably priced and great quality.
