Poncebos is a great starting point for treks in los Picos.
Poncebos is a great starting point for treks in los Picos. The funicular train up to Bulnes is here as is the path that goes up to Bulnes. You can also start the Cares gorge walk here. This is one of the most beautiful walks in Spain and accessible to all ages.

It is very comfortable with great rooms and beds. Bathrooms are shared, but there are plenty and they are very clean and spacious. Breakfast is provided and the restaurant serves lunches, tapas and dinner as well. There are buses scheduled from Arenas de Cabrales to Poncebos; the bus stop is a 5-10 min walk from the hostel depending on how much luggage you are carrying.KristenSlovenia

My only complaint would be that it was very hot and not well ventilated but it was August! The location is excellent if you are doing the Ruta del Cares trail - it is the closest hotel to the start of the walk, just a short walk away. There is plenty of parking outside if you arrive in the evening, which means your car is right at the end of the trail when you finish. I highly recommend staying here if you're doing the Cares trail.

Owner was very friendly and breakfast was good (freshly baked croissants with pressed orange juice). Free parking on road in front of hotel. For anyone with mobility issues, there are no rooms available at ground level, up a flight of stairs to reception and then up again to rooms.

Very important if it's a busy day and you arrive after 11am and no street parking available. Nice bar area and superb egg bacon and chips after the long gorge walk which is truly spectacular and not to be missed. Friendly staff. Great mountain view from our room overlooking the road. Comfy bed.

Only worked for half our trip but to have any service at all in the mountains was an unexpected treat. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Also a very cute gift shop in the hotel thats very affordable for last minute hiking gear or souveneirs.

The hotel has a small car park, but even if that's full, there was always some parking place to be found on the street, even in August (but depending on the hour, of course).
