The Huelguera neighborhood is filled with a quiet mix of single-occupancy houses (may of them Very Old; I believe that this house was built in the early 1800's, and the actual property is several hundred years old) with a few "townhouses" (that's code for connected). Think of a green, lush, pastoral neighborhood with stone walls. Lots of stones. Like, you know, Ireland. There are a few cows wandering around. I said Hi, they answered. They were very pleasant. This property is connected to a private house on the side, but the connection is not noticeable when inside; no noise! The gardens surrounding both houses are beautiful. I didn't get to eat breakfast out on the patio (raining; Surprise! Cantabria). That said, the breakfasts were wonderful: home-made bread and biscocho, tomato and oil and/or jam, *excellent* tortilla, fresh fruit, ham, cheese (varied by day), fresh-squeezed orange juice, nice strong coffee. In spite of the tranquility, the highway is about 5 minutes' drive away and many attractions (Altamira and Castillo caves, Laberinto De Villapresente, Santillana del Mar medieval town) are between 10-25 minutes' drive. Simply driving is wonderful because of the scenery. Make reservations for Castillo cave! The town (Puente San Miguel) has plenty of places to hang out, eat, etc. For a late-night beer with no frills (it's close, but you still need to drive), try Café Bar Loal. They treated me well. The bigger town/city, Torrelavega, another 5-10 minutes' drive away, has loads more stuff to do and see (as well as all the more mundane, yet necessary things: all-night pharmacy, supermarkets, etc). Go visit it for sure! Especially Mundo Canalla, if you want to have a stellar burger and dining experience, without having to pay $$$ and wait too long - yet feel like you ate gourmet). First and foremost, the staff were exceptional. Not only were they incredibly friendly, but they were also a wealth of knowledge when it came to local information. Whether I needed recommendations for dining, sightseeing, or exploring the area, they were always ready to provide the very best suggestions, making my stay even more memorable. The lodge's location is another highlight. Situated right in the heart of the historical part of Santillana del Mar, it offered the perfect blend of convenience and authenticity. Despite being nestled in the midst of such rich history, the lodge still managed to provide ample parking spots, making it incredibly convenient for travelers like myself. As for the accommodations themselves, they were nothing short of delightful. The building exuded historical charm, while the rooms were impeccably clean and comfortable. It was evident that great care had been taken to ensure guests' comfort, and I couldn't have asked for a better place to unwind after a day of exploring. Overall, my experience at this lodge was nothing short of exceptional. From the friendly and knowledgeable staff to the convenient yet authentic location, it truly exceeded all my expectations. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable stay in Santillana del Mar.

Such a wonderful small hotel- great service and helpful staff!!!! Very clean, new renovations so bathrooms and bedrooms very fresh and tasteful decor. Towels are huge and excellent! Great water pressure and always hot water for a shower! 1 block into the medieval city and 1 block to a laundry mat and butcher. Great breakfast options- locally made cakes/ toast/ fruit/croissants/ excellent coffee machine (has chocolate option). They will make you eggs and bacon (pancetta) for $2 € extra. Highly recommend It is by the main road into Santillana del Mar- so if vehicles bother you bring ear plugs. Not much traffic at night.

Absolutely stunning hotel . Nice treat after finishing Camino del Norte.

Hotel was lovely as have visited many times previously, not as many English as they used to have visit.

Great staff, very helpful at all times. Great access near highway. Access to the swimming pool was a great bonus for my children. Highway near the hotel was never a problem (no noise).

I came in for a wedding. The Palacio was beautiful and my stay there was excellent. The ambience, atmosphere and surroundings are heavenly. Great breakfast. Excellent staff. I yearn very much to return there.

the room was very spacious with lovely attention to detail including robes and decorative towels. The staff were helpful and kind and there was an extensive choice of breakfast food on offer.
