Nicosia's old town is fascinating and safe to walk around day and night. Nicosia also has an excellent cheap bus service. Locals are friendly and helpful if you need directions. Besides, almost always great weather, very nice people, and delicious food, 1 - to 2 days in Nicosia is enough to walk around and check out the sightseeing. I recommend passing through the border to the Turkish side and shopping a bit in the Turkish Bazar (the ladies will like POSH Handbags & Shoes shop) and eating at the local restaurants. Nicosia is a very unique and historic City.
Nicosia is a very unique and historic City. Famously it is still a divided city and it is possible to visit Northern Nicosia which is under Turkish Occupation since the 1970s. There are many very interesting and fairly unique sites to visit on both sides of the border. Nicosia is both a very modern city and has also a very old and picturesque sector. The fact that it has a patrolled border, the Green Line, running through it makes it a very memorable experience. There are many restaurants and tavernas of variable quality in the town. Sadly there are way too many fast food outlets, but there are also some traditional tavernas serving fresh local delicacies. The southern city center is very small--you can easily walk...
The southern city center is very small--you can easily walk from end to end multiple times in a day of sightseeing--but it is a pleasant mix of developed tourist streets, colorful quaint residential streets, abandoned buildings and weird more or less closed shops with display windows full of junk. More amenities are usually offered by any other place. Taking the price into consideration this is an extremely good find. The public area of the hotel is very nice and modern. When it comes to the rooms, the corridors are very narrow and the lift does not go to every floor. Stairs are not for tall people, you can easily bump your head. The rooms seem very tight, my bathroom had a step in the middle of the room.
