Great location to explore the monastery and the area. We slept very well, the rooms were specious enough. Great view and nice staff. The food at the restaurant was delicious.

There was enough to see at the monastary, even though most museums there seemed no to be open (it was February!). Entrance is free but be ready to pay 5 levs for parking (you do get all day for that).
The area has dramatic scenery with some other things to see other than just the Monastary.
We visited the grave of James Baucher and discovered why Sofia has a station named after this Irishman!

We take all our foreign guests to visit the Monastery.
We take all our foreign guests to visit the Monastery. It is iconic. The parking cost 5 Leva, but there is no entry fee to the Monastery. The two museums in the monastery require an entry fee, but are worth the price. Make sure that you see the clock tower bells that ring on the hour. Behind the Monastery is a little fast food place that sells a Bulgarian treat called "makitsa", it costs 1 Lev and even the Bulgarians will tell you that is the best "makitsa" in the country.

In the warmer months,go early, as in be there by 10AM. Afterwards it gets very crowded by Noon. Avoid the weekends and holidays if possible. There is a 5LV parking fee. Admission is free to the church-no photos inside. There are 4 museums each with a 4 LV charge. The exterior murals are from the late 19th C. The main beauty is the exterior of the church and it's grounds.
The back entrance and parking area is heavily commercialized, however there is a stand there making fresh hot donuts. They are as close to heaven as you'll get!

Check the Internet for Rila monastry.
Check the Internet for Rila monastry. They do have an excellent website.
It is worth the visit. Mind that it is a 30 min drive from the interstate each way. Accomodation quality seems questionable in the area. at least my negative experience with Gorski Kut was horrible.

The tour of the monastery was fantastic.
The tour of the monastery was fantastic. Because we stayed right next to the monastery we were there early do got an individual tour of the ethnography rooms and icon room. Place is a lovely visit anyway but seeing it without the crowds is fantastic. (Go early or stay late!)

Rila Monastery is one of the Icons of the region!
Rila Monastery is one of the Icons of the region! It contains everything: culture, history, nature, religion - you name it!
Unfortunatelly for the surrounding structures - some of them are not maintained very well which need to be improved (this is valid for the roads too). However the region is with Must Visit state for me.

A lovely hotel in the Rila mountains. Beautiful grounds, we enjoyed a delicious dinner in the garden. In the cool of the morning we had a tasty, and ample, breakfast served to us in the charming dining room. Wonderful proprietor, Villy, has a calm demeanor, and professional but low key operation. Spotless rooms and grounds. We wished we had planned to stay for longer.
The Hotel & Restaurant are located in a beautiful area in the middle of the Rila Mountains, a short drive from the UNESCO Heritage monastery we well as many other sites and attractions. The staff were very kind and helped us sign in ahead of time. The food was local, homemade and delicious - also very healthy with many vegetables and salads!
quiet location, clean and simple, in the style of mountain cabins, we rested well. breakfast was good, a continental breakfast, the dinner served at the restaurant is well cooked and tasty. very good price-quality ratio
the Rila monastery is close by and we had a peaceful and relaxing time after the long journey...
The location is perfect for visiting Rila monastery. Hosts were welcoming and friendly, although there are no refrigerator in the room, they allowed us to keep our food in their refrigerator. Sound of nearby stream/river by an open window during summer night was wonderful.
The too less personal has given all their best to make the time as comfortable as they can. My greatest respect for. The location of the Hotel is super. The Design of the Hotel is nice even you can see around at the structure missing or incomplete parts.
I stayed there for a night with my parents. Lovely family hotel; small but clean rooms, great customer service.
Worth having dinner at the restaurant, fresh and tasty. Breakfast was perfect. If I go back in the area I’ll definitely stay there again.
The hotel has an old communist era hotel feel, but some may find that charming in its own right. Everything was clean, the location is excellent, there is a restaurant on site, with great views of the creek and sunset. The food was very tasty.
For a 2* hotel has everything you may want. The rooms are clean and big enough for a short stay. The restaurant serves delicious food at reasonable prices. It's the perfect choice if you want to visit Rila Monastery.
Close to Rila monestary. strange experience. felt like the shining. newer hotel with very few guests. no pool or spa. Skeleton staff, and power went out at night and in the morning. bed was comfortable.
A charming family hotel in a lovely area close to Rila monastery. The hosts were incredibly accommodating and the service top notch. The food in the restaurant is delicious. Highly recommended.
Kind and responsive host and staff, the food at the restaurant was delicious.
We had a nice view to the mountains and even though the hotel is on the road, we had no trouble sleeping.
Fantastic location, and a (potentially) well-equipped hotel. The staff was friendly and professional. Given other lodging in the vicinity of Rlia Monastery, this was one of the best!
The hotel is nice, located very close to Rila monastery, but not very close to other key Rila attractions. the food was not bad, and the surrounding area is beautiful
