Scenic coastal walks. Interesting history, including a very good museum. Very friendly people. Walking uphill into town with our bags a lovely woman stopped her car and insisted on giving us a lift to the door of our hotel!
There is a small town , but to get to it it is uphill ( quite steep ) also Wednesday afternoon is half day closing but there is a nice little cafe where you can stop and recover from the walk ! Everyone you pass always say hello, the people are so friendly. Near the harbour there is a little fish and chip shop with a small restaurant (where you can bring your own booze) and also a place where you can hire bikes and electric bikes (there are quite a few steep hills on Alderney) there are also a couple of fairly big supermarkets near the harbour which are well stocked with nearly everything ( if your self catering ) also you can do a boat trip round the island , There isn’t really a lot to do ,it’s very laid back but very relaxing, there is a lot of interesting and amazing history to the island. There are some lovely beaches and great walks ! If you want you can also hire a car.
Alderney is a lovely, small, tranquell island in the English Channel. It is reachable from Guernsey by plane or ferry. A taxi on Alderney can take people from the airport terminal or ferry port to St Anne, the main village for roughly UK £6 and is run by a friendly lady named Michelle. There are several guesthouses and hotels on Alderney, I stayed at La Ville, a reasonably priced, comfy hotel with very friendly staff. Breakfast and free WiFi in room price. It's located in the centre of the only town next to a Farmer's shop and the main church. Alderney has several attractions plus many good walks in nature. The island bosts 14 forts, most of which can be entered. The Roman Fort and so-called 'Nunnery' are very interesting and in the grounds of the Roman Fort are bunkers built by the German military, who occupied Alderney for 5 years during World War II. One bunker contains an old German gun. The lighthouse, located at the northeast end of Alderney is also worth visiting. There are many peaceful beaches including Braye Beach that are nice to visit. The Odeon, another World War II German bunker, is also an interesting atraction. La Ville and other accommodations can help organise walking or driveing tours around Alderney. Alderney is also one of the best islands for bird watching and several guided birdwatching tours can be aranged.
The hotel met our needs exactly. It is in a great location from which to start out on walks or to catch a taxi to admire the harbour, and all the natural and cultural assets of the island. It is a small island and easy to get around. The hotel has a splendid range of excellent food choices and restaurants. Our beautiful room had magnificent ever-changing views of the wide curve of sandy Braye Beach. An ideal seashore for the less mobile to stroll along. A lasting memory will be the large Hunter's moon reflected in the silvery water at high tide and the sound of gently lapping waves from the comfort of our room at the end the day.
A serenely peaceful, sl remote charming island, quite distinct from all the other channel isles. Excellent for exploring on foot, with great island produce to enjoy across a range of hospitable venues.
The views of the breakwater and Braye Beach are stunning from the Hotel, food at hotel was lovely, taxi service from A1 taxis brilliant, the Indian in town called Nellie Grey was brilliant, wouldnt go back to the Tapas restaurant a couple of doors up from the hotel
Alderney
Alderney in general so relaxing and welcoming to guests we had great weather for October. Hired bikes went swimming and good meals out. A little shopping in the few shops. Perfect unwinding weekend.
Great hotel, excellent breakfasts, ideal location to explore all of serene Alderney.
