Hotel in Tamarindo ( 0.6 miles)
Located in Tamarindo, Hotel Casa Carlota Tamarindo features a garden. There is a year-round outdoor pool and guests can make use of free WiFi and free private parking. I travel a lot and I don't think I've met friendlier or more helpful hosts at this hotel. Due to a shortage of rental cars throughout Costa Rica, I was without transportation when I arrived at the hotel. Jeffrey and Shirley gave me a ride to downtown Tamarindo and even took time from their busy schedule to provide a personal tour of the town. Shirley even arranged an Uber taxi for me to travel to my next stop at Coco Beach. They are renovating the hotel and it is now modern, clean and reasonably priced.

1.2 km from Tamarindo Beach, Hotel El Baquiano is located in Tamarindo and provides air-conditioned rooms. There is a terrace and guests can make use of free WiFi and free private parking. Staying at this hotel was a total win! The room was super nice, like a cozy home away from home. It was comfy, had all the good vibes, and the best part? It didn't break the bank—awesome value for the chill atmosphere and top-notch comfort! The staff was also great to deal with, very friendly.
I liked the area, which is a very long beach near the national park. Note that access can be limited, as it is a very bumpy and unpaved road from the national park entrance to the villas at the end of the peninsula towards Tamarindo. Beach was fine enough to walk in - lots of shells and surfers. Water wasn't cold, but wasn't totally warm either, comfortable temperature to walk. If you walk down to the end of the peninsula, water taxis that are only $2 will take you over to Tamarindo, so in the end it's nice to be a bit secluded away from the action, yet still have access to shopping and entertainment if you need it. Just wave to the guys at the other end!
We were disappoined in Tamarindo ~ it felt like a tourist trap with all the sidewalk tour booths. We went snorkeling with one of the booths by the beach which was definitely NOT worth it as there was absoluately nothing to see. We discovered Native Way & booked a tour to the Estuary which was excellent compared to another guest who booked from the booths by the beaches. I also heard many of them are scams as they want a deposit which will be the last you'll hear ofthem. We would recommend Native Way if you want to book any tours. We were disappointed becaue Tarmarindo was more expensive than we expected. There were only a few "shops" that were not filled with "souvenirs" that were probably not even made there. Go to the Night Market on Thursday or Farmer's Market on Saturday for unique gifts made by local artisans. Food at Restaurants were good but not the prices. We recommend Tabu & Pico Bistro. Pangas is over rated... food was so so but atmosopshere was out of this world.
Nice quiet area. A limited but good selection of eating places nearby. the beach is great for walking, swimming or riding a bike. It does not have shade trees on the beach. Lots of different birds. Go to Hotel El Manglar to book mangrove estuary boat tour. it is very good. Playa Grande is much quieter than Tamarindo but it is about 40 minute drive if you want to go to Tamarindo.
The town was walkable end to end seamed to be safe. Many great restaurants on beach breakfast lunch and dinner. Most had showes at night As for fishing all boat owners lie we booked 3 day told sails, tuna, bill fish were hot. No boats caught or seen any of them. We fished the 36 topaz did get some dolphins fish they did not give use all our fish. Just wasted 3600
Beautiful beach line. Great for surfing and boogie boarding. Trees at the beach provide plenty of shade. Long and picturesque shore line is excellent to walk in the morning or at dawn hours. Amazing sunsets.
I love love love Tamarindo! I've actually been looking non-stop at properties to see if there is a place I'd like to live. It's unlikely that I will move there permanently, but I'd love to have a little place to be able to visit once in awhile!
