La Mirage is a 5-star Hotel & Spa built on the grounds of a 200-year old Andean Hacienda. It features orchid gardens filled with peacocks and a gourmet cooking school. The peacock garden is such a unique experience. We loved the different areas to eat meals - breakfast in a cozy cottage building overlooking the peacock garden, and lunch and dinner in a different beautiful building overlooking the garden. The staff went above and beyond to assist us when our luggage was delayed. Each night we returned to our room to find turndown service and a fire crackling in the hearth. We stayed at 4 different accommodations during the course of our 10-day tour of Ecuador and Galapagos and this was hands down our favorite. If we find ourselves in Ecuador again in the future, we would go out of our way to stay here again.

The food -breakfast, lunch or dinner, served on demand at the time you want- is prepared from scratch and absolutely delicious and caters to vegans. Bravo for their deep dish chocolate brownie! Finally, it is a joy to sit in front of their huge fireplace, watching the fire while thumbing one of their books. Not to forget their adorable dog Patcha who enjoys so much being with her guests...And the hotel is three blocks away from the famous Otavalo market!
