Salamanca market
A Hobart classic for a Saturday morning. Just along from Princes Wharf, Salamanca Market revels in its historic setting. Against the backdrop of honey-coloured sandstone houses from the 19th century, wide-ranging stalls line the thoroughfare. On offer is an array of Tasmanian goods, from handmade clothing, funky ponchos and vintage collectables to potted plants, flowers and ceramics. And that’s before you get to the artisan food!

Compared to my visit 20 years ago - it was more ‘artisan’ work to see then - and different to other places.
Now far too packed with food stalls, & same type of stalls to be found in any large market anywhere. Hard to find the real artisans of Hobart & Tasmania.
I am from NSW and brought my cousin on this 3 week trip. Salamanca was to be a must see, but would have been better spending the day travelling further down the coast.
The uniqueness of Salamanca has been lost — sadly.

Over rated and over priced.
Over rated and over priced. Better bargain options and prices at Vinnies, Salvos, Buy4 less, at Glenorchy and CBD outlets. You are really paying for the vibe, and seeing some 2,000 people aged 40-90 come out at the same time.

If you have been to other big markets in Queensland you may find the Salmanca markets small. The fact that most people raved about these markets of course you make the effort and go. Apart from food and drink stalls I didn't find a lot of other types of stalls there.

Be ready to walk a bit.
Be ready to walk a bit. Some up hill sections that can be a little challenginmg if your unsteady or need to use a walking stick. Watch the cobble stone pavers and deceptive level changes of the side walks.

I particularly love the boutique gin, whisky and vodka distilleries at Salamanca Market. You can sample so many things in one morning, you'll definitely keep warm!!
Woodworking and photography are two other types of stallholders well-represented, as well as sensational confectionery and baked goods vendors.
You can also always find a breathtakingly gorgeous bunch of flowers straight from the growers themselves.

Go to the market in the morning around 10:00AM.
Go to the market in the morning around 10:00AM. Too late and there is just too much people, too early and some stalls haven't really opened yet. Also try the Burny Island Wallaby Pie, it is actually really delicious.

The property is located right in the Salamanca market area. The one bedroom apartment had a separate lounge, kitchen area, hallway laundry and balcony with water views.
Beautiful apartment with great views. Extremely comfortable for 2 couples. Close to marina and ferry was very convenient for transport to Hobart city and Salamanca Markets.
Location great. It is just around the corner from the Salamanca markets as well as some great restaurants. Has a fantastic bakery as well as access to grocery lines just a short walk. Staff were fantastic and helpful especially the gentleman on the front desk at reception. Most helpful and welcoming. Just a warning the hotel is on a hill so a little hard if you have a health condition.
The apartment is in a quiet court, although you need to take care driving due to the blind turns. Easy access and everything was clean and tidy. half hour walk down to Salamanca market and there's a pleasant cafe "Giddy Up" on the way down.
The location is everything when describing this property. You are literally right above where Salamanca markets are held. There are heaps of dining and drinking options within a minutes walk. Art galleries, shops, CBD etc is only minutes away by walking. A few days earlier I had stayed in North Hobart and compared to that hotel, which was a 20 minute walk up/down a hill, the location of Galleria could not be topped. Highly recomment.
The apartment was so spacious. Heaps of room for working, sleeping and playing!

What guests said about Salamanca Market:
Salamanca Market has a plethoria of restaurants to cater to every culinary desire and were top notch
Hobart has some of the best restaurants in Australia because they use their fresh produce which Tasmania is famous for. Their bakeries are second to none, certainly Brisbane doesn't have bakeries like Daci & Daci or Jackman and Ross. Salamanca Market has a plethoria of restaurants to cater to every culinary desire and were top notch. I can't wait to go back and sample some more!
