Applecross
Hartfield House Hostel offers pet-friendly accommodation in Applecross. Free private parking is available on site. There are extensive grounds and covered space for bikes, ideal for cyclists and walkers. Prompt and clear communication from beginning to end. In fact, the most detailed set of information I've received from any of the properties I've stayed in while driving around the NC500. Lara put my mind at ease by informing about late check-in procedures, so I didn't have to rush on the road. Normally, I prefer not to share bathrooms and kitchens, but given the high demand for properties around the area at this time of the year, I was left with no other option. This wasn't a problem at all. Everything is super organized and pristine, from the communal kitchen, laundry room, toilets and showers. I opted for a single room, which was clean, comfortable and adequate after a whole day on the road. Appelcross Village and Heartfield are surrounded by rugged, yet peaceful settings, and I wish I had dedicated more time to this area.

On Scotland’s far west coast, The Mission Bunkhouse in Mallaig offers simple hostel accommodation right opposite the train station and seconds from the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry terminal. Spean Bridge
Set in Spean Bridge, 34 km from Glen Nevis, Great Glen Hostel offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking and a shared lounge. The property is situated 32 km from Ben Nevis Whisky Distillery, 35 km from West Highland Museum and 42 km from Urquhart Castle. Free WiFi and a shared kitchen are offered. Excellent hostel in a beautiful old building, super clean and feels updates inside. Staff were very helpful and would go out of their way for the guests, though they are fairly consistent about the times the shop and meal stations open (would have liked the shop to be open a bit more, the meal station was understandable). Beds were comfy, in private room. Shared bathrooms were well maintained and clean. Dinner (we had burger/fries and curry) was great after a long day's hike on the GGW, Breakfast was sufficient for the day's hike with hot or cold only options (the hot option was rather nice). They also have a self cook kitchen and a small store where one can buy some food to cook and for the trail. Fairly good access to the trail, though it's a slight walk along a busy road, would be better if they can get a direct connector into their backyard. Laundry room was great to have. We also had a friendly rooster who liked to hang out with the guests. it's really an example of why hostels are such great fun to stay at.

Really lovely friendly staff. Everything you need from a budget hostel. The towel hire service was a good send because we had forgotten ours. Great location.
Lovely property, clean and modern, great location, rooms very small, absolutely no sound proofing whatsoever.. was like sleeping in a dormitory with the room next door snoring and talking in there sleep, never slept a wink …
the atmosphere, from the friendly welcome to the décor and facilities, everything was beyond my expectations. This hostel is a great way to travel solo while meeting others. The facilities were also very clean and the kitchen well equipped for cooking. The staff and volunteers were also really friendly and all over I had a fab time. The dormitory also was very safe for a solo traveller. It really was a home away from home vibe.
Lovely, comfy hostel, friendly and helpful reception. Clean, comfy beds. Great lounge and seating areas, plus lovely clean kitchen. Well-stacked bar with Ness beers and a range of whiskies. Great location right off the Great Glen trail and a short walk from the Co-op. Vying for best hostel on this trip!!!! Would go back and highly recommend.
Great location , lots to do with the kids , lots of grounds space , swimming pool , friendly staff at pool and restaurant and bar , cheap arcade games , safe for the kids in hotel , around the site , nice food for breakfast. Comfortable beds and easy parking on site, comfortable bar area , clean , pool was clean as well.
Excellent staff and good facilities. Having also stayed in the nearby hostel I prefer Saucy Mary's as the bunk beds are better designed and easier and safer to get into.
Staff were friendly. Facilities were good: small kitchen with most things you need and a relaxed common area. Great shared bathrooms. Not really any atmosphere in the hostel itself, but a decent place to base yourself in Inverness if not looking to meet people. Bathrooms were large, incredibly clean and had good lighting - probably one of the best hostel bathrooms I've stayed at in a while. Great location - very central.
One of the best hostels I did visit. Great location for overnight stay on the road around Scotland. Very friendly staff. Definitely recommend it.
After staying in self-catering accommodation it was great to be in a hostel with a lot of like-minded people - a woman up from London running a marthon, a group of German climbers, everyone in love with the outdoors - lots of great books for free. We had a good, cheap and hot dinner - my veggie haggis was great - and breakfast set us up for the day. Great location close to Fort Augustus - perfect for seeing Loch Lomond and as a stopover on the way from Skye to Loch Lomond. Friendly laid back atmosphere much appreciated.
Used multiple times for a cheap stay in the Fort. Cannot fault it for the price. Decent hotel room for less than the cost of a bunk in a youth hostel these days.
