Caminha, a fortified border town located at the mouth of the river Minho, where several battles were fought between Portugal and Spain, now has much more friendly relations with its neighbor , it is a nice place to stay a few days to discover the area, unfortunately the ferry that connects the two banks of the river, is out of service.

I have been taking holidays in Caminha for over 30 years so it is one of my favourite spots. The town is small and everything is in walking distance, packed with enough restaurant choices to keep you satisfied and very well fed. Around it there's plenty interesting things to see and places to visit, also more restaurants with more excellent food to enjoy. The proximity with Spain is also a bonus.

Great little town with a lots of culture and tradition.
Great little town with a lots of culture and tradition. As a pilgrim, there were not so many places to stay, but I met some lovely people there. I loved walking along the river Minho, beautiful landscape, fascinating architecture. It's a quiet town that is located on the riverbank of Rio Minho and you can cross the river by ferry to Spain.

CAMINHA is a very attractive little town especially the old centre which has a lovely bustling square !
Many decent reasonably priced restaurants.
There are lovely clean beaches & super views across the River Minho to Spain !
Ideally located for walking on the beautiful unspoilt Serra da Arga or along the coastline.
Easy to nip across to Spain on the cheap ferry.
Good train service to other interesting places.
I had a great stay, and highly recommend for pilgrims wanting a private room in caminha. I came in winter and there is only one scheduled transfer across the river, so host accommodated an early breakfast. I came down to dining area to a nice setting with everything I could have wanted. Easy walk to boat in the morning, no problems. Also had a cash bar for drinks, which I did not use, but very convenient.
Gustavo and Sandra took care of us very well. They have done a great job developing the property. The room was very comfortable and quiet. We really enjoyed the breakfast, including her home made scones. She even gave us some to take on the Camino to share with our friends. Gustavo gave us a ride to meet our friends for the boat ride to Spain. We really enjoyed our stay
Located a few miles outside Caminha, this guest house is exquisite and the setting magical beside a refreshing river that is perfect for swimming. Huge shout out to Diana who was so helpful and attentive to all our needs! Highly recommend. While this slight distance from the city poses some challenges to back packers like us, the charm of the area was well work it.
It was BEAUTIFUL. The town is a small beautiful town @ the Douro River and it
Was the last Stop in Portugal before crossing to Spain in the Camino Portugués. The hotel needs a little TLC but other than that is beautiful. The pool and the restaurant were excellent and wonderful to end our long walking day.
Clean, staff were helpful, kitchen facilities for cooking after a day on the Camiño, had newspapers for driving our shoes after a long wet day on the Camiño, and the hostel arranges taxis to the boats that take you across the inlet to Spain the next day.
This is one of the more special places where I've ever stayed. If you ever go to that part of Portugal, you have to visit this gem. It's a true experience, perfectly maintained hotel, wonderful owners and a gorgeous setting.
Amazing hosts, they went a extra mile to help me and my friends about transportation and tips for our stay in Caminha. Great location and outdoor space, wish we had more time to enjoy the place.
The hotel has fancy and original design, beds are comfortable, room was super clean. Very nice and helpful staff. The room is near Camino, breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Highly recommended!
The hotel was great great value when I went, fab shower, nice size room, clean, free parking, and an excellent restaurant downstairs, value for money was a 10! Stop by it was very good.
The rooms were spacious and modern and clean . The reception/lounge area super nice . The staff very friendly and helpful and the location right by the ferry boats .
