The hotel is affordable. It's great that they have a restaurant which is open all day from breakfast till dinner. The restaurant staff was helpful, they also warmed a bottle of milk for our daughter before bedtime.
Of course we came to visit Calakmul, which is still >1 hour away, but there's just not many options to stay somewhere closer.

Large room, good location, lovely staff. Accommodated a late arrival (we came by bus).

Wonderful place in the "jungle". We stayed here for two nights to arrange the Calakmul visit and we are very happy with our decision. Everything was nice: a big bed, kitchenette, cleanliness in the bungalow, jungle surroundings. Thanks to the host.

We loved our stay at Cabañas Aldea! The smaller cabin was already taken during the dates we wanted to book so we ended up booking the larger two bedroom cabin and we loved it! We felt so cozy and comfortable there. It was so quiet and a perfect place to rest after our days exploring Calakmul and the surrounding ruins. I highly recommend it as a place to stay when visiting this region!

We had such a great stay at Ecohabitat in Xpujil! Our favourite stop yet on our Mexican road trip. Breakfast was awesome and is included! We got the choice of quesadilla or eggs and everything comes with fruit and toast and coffee or tea. Always served on time and delicious. Room was very clean and tidy and staff were friendly and helpful. Big shoutout to Jorge who was our lovely receptionist, maintenance man, cleaner, and server. He was kind enough to unlock our room at 9:30pm after I accidentally locked us out. Hotel is along a major trucking route, but the hotel makes this very clear and it wasn’t a surprise. Pretty much everywhere along this route has been affected by the Tren Maya construction. Noise was covered up by A/C which was awesome. Private parking is a great bonus. Such a cute place and great access to Calakmul. We also loved the covered patio and spent evening out there listening to the crickets.

The cabin was spacious, practical, and fun. The water pressure was good in the shower, coffee pot worked well, and the bed was comfy. The trail through the jungle is awesome- I saw three spider monkeys and lots of birds and lizards. Really beautiful and well done. It seems like this place is expanding and being made with care.
It is well placed for some fascinating archaeology.
It is well placed for some fascinating archaeology.
But you need to be up for a "half horse" town.
To get to a basic restaurant we walked through the middle of roadworks.
Most roads giving access to the hotel were closed for road works and of course there are no diversions..you just work it out!
But the archaeology is fabulous though to get to Calakmul was a 3 hour drive each way .

Beautiful site right off the road.
Beautiful site right off the road. Walk to the Mirador Maya Hotel. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and as of September, 2023, you can climb everything. There's no pyramid, but the main structure is very tall and impressive. Bring bug spray. The mosquitoes are pretty intense.

Xpujil itself is not worth visiting.
Xpujil itself is not worth visiting. It is a good town to stay if you are travelling trough the area (for example when visiting Calakmul) and need a place to sleep. There is a small supermarket and a nice pizza restaurant. Be aware that there are only two banks and their ATM's at the time of our visit both of them did not have any money in them for two days.

Xpujil is located more or less at the center of the Calakmul...
Xpujil is located more or less at the center of the Calakmul municipality (which is large). Although this little town is not particularly oriented towards tourism, it is the best location to stay connected & have all services within easy reach so you can move between main sites and attractions around the Calakmul area.
Near Xpujil you will find from four to six striking archaeological sites and all of them are worth the visit. Of course, the most impressive one is Calakmul but there is plenty to do beyond that outstanding stop. For instance, you can ask a cab to take you to "Ejido 20 de Noviembre" and visit plenty of craft workshops (wood carving, embroidery by hand and by machine among others). I really enjoyed my visit to Hilos de Vida, Amanecer de Rio Bec & Artesanos Sabios since they give you a nice explanation on their crafts and sometimes they even offer a class for you to take (they also can get you a guide if you need translation aid).
Whether you are traveling with family, couple or by yourself, I really recommend to book no less than two nights in Casa Ka'an (about 8 to 10 minutes by car near Xpujil), 'cause they have everything you expect and a little bit more in a really cute jungle lodge composed by very independent villas which happen to be surrounded by the most wonderful environment. Needless to say that a chat with the manager (Nicolás) is always enlightening so if you catch him ask for his views on the area.
Last but no least... you will boost your experience in the region if you move around in a 4WD or even better in your own bike.

Not a lot of options for housing around the Calakmul...
Not a lot of options for housing around the Calakmul Biosphere. None are really close and you need a vehicle to get to the main part of the park. Xpujil, is little neighborhood town, not too close to ruins or highway. We enjoyed walking around town and looking at birds and the old frame houses.

Our only reason for staying in Xpujil was to visit Calakmul.
Our only reason for staying in Xpujil was to visit Calakmul. But as it turns out, it is not the closest lodging to go to the ruins. Conhuas is nearer and has a few hotels that would have worked better for our itinerary, since we were going west. The town of Xpujil has very little of interest and the meal we had was one of the least successful of our trip. We ate dinner at Sazon Veracruzana, sitting right on the dusty noisy main road (186) that runs through the town. It had the more favorable reviews in LP. Calakmul was a great experience though!
One of the closest hotels and villages to Calakmul, which is how we found the place to stay, still about 1 hour drive to the entrance at night. Xpujil has their own little archeological site and Becan is close by as well. In the village you find some shops, bakeries and taquerias. Try to go by the furniture manufacturer Adolfo and his father they make fantastic furniture (unfortunately most of them too big to take with us, we got some small souvenirs made of wood instead). Great grilled chicken, see pictures.
It is not too far from Calakmul reserve, but not close either. Sweet little town. Hotel/hostel a little on the unkempt side but was fine for three days. Large room, AC and hot water both worked fine. Did not use pool because it was cool. A few interesting birds come through the gardens. The food is adequate while not great. Balthasar, the owner, is a nice guy and tries to serve with cheerfulness. He hooked us up with a good guide for seeing the ruins and birds at Calakmul.
Stayed here two nights in order to get to Calakmul Ruins. The hotel is exactly what it needs to be. An affordable comfortable place with a store nearby and restaurant attached. The room was small and the grounds were basic but that was perfect for us because it keeps the price low. Also the staff helped to organize a car to get to the ruins the next day which was invaluable! The wifi was strong enough to work from.
I did not expect to find such nice accommodations in Xpujil. The room was very comfortable, spacious, and modern with a small fridge and coffee maker and a TV. The patio hammock was one of the most comfortable hammocks I've ever been in. Host was incredibly nice. I did not use the available communal kitchen space. I would absolutely stay here again.
Very slightly outside of Xpujil, so you don't have the noise or pollution (mainly dust) problems that you have in town. You can still walk into town in about 10 minutes. The breakfast is EXCELLENT, and the owners are happy to assist with whatever questions or needs you have. AC works great, although it can be quite cool at night naturally.
We expected the worst hearing about xpujil that it could be dangerous and is just a town to drive through. We were pleasently surprised about this hotel. Rooms are cheap, big and the owner is super friendly and hard working on its hotel. He is making the most out of the deserted location of Xpujil. And we liked the hot shower
An excellent place to stop near Xpujil. Very little options in this area and these chalets in the natural enviroment were excellent. We stayed her for two separate nights when touring from the north of Yucatan to the South and Back.
Nice little restaurant and bar on site. All in all a very pleasant surprise.
Absolutely amazing stay in this family run hotel in the center of Valladolid! The hotel was great, awesome pool, lovely clean rooms with aircon! The host was so helpful and gave us loads of tips and restaurant suggestions! Breakfasts were also a lovely touch! Highly recommend!
In the jungle just a few km outside of town and close to the new Maya train station ( when it's ready)
Nice nature jungle trail starting at the property amongst the hills of ancient unescavated small Maya ruins ( hard to destinguish but they are there)
Location was perfect if you are looking to visit the breathtaking ruins of Calakmul. These are beautiful and super clean small cabins in the middle of the jungle. The staff was super nice. They even have a small restaurant on site with great food!
My third visit to the hotel. Stayed in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Friendly family run hotel. Close to ADO bus terminal. Good reception TV, watched the youtube channel. A fridge was outside, good for keeping water, cheese, chicken and fruit cold.
The hotel has a restaurant with kind staff and yummy food. The hotel's staff were kind too. The bedrooms were clean and comfy, also the private bathroom. The hotel is well located and the parking is at the front of the property.
The staff is very friendly, they asked if we were interested in tours, that is good customer service, it feels like home plus the rooms have A/C, which is amazing since Xpujil is extremely hot!
Nice little hotel with friendly staff, great for a short stopover before a visit to Calakmul. The hammocks and pool were a great place to relax and cool off. There is also free parking.
The hotel is having a very good price-value share.
The room was clean and we had everything we needed. Parking spots were available in front of the hotel.
Staff was very friendly.
Perfect place to stay in xpujil and go explore Calakmul. Nothing fancy, it's a little village, but it's clean, quiet and confortable, they even have hot water in the showers.
