The food was amazing! We had an excellent breakfast before walking the Kumono Kodo trail and the lunch bento box was delicious as well.
Nice smell of incense on arrival. The dining room was very cool with alot of American memorabilia. I love the saloon doors that lead to the bathroom.
Really close to kii tanabe and Isakyas as well.

The host was excellent, he called a few accom places ahead of our kimono kodo trail to ensure they had availability, he was extremely helpful. The bunks were clean and spacious for hostel bunks. Cute little balcony at the top for a drink too.

Loved every minute of it, from Yutaka picking us up at the station over visiting the baby goats to the excellent meal by Giovanni. It felt like the kind of happiness you can only experience at home.

Tanabe was our starting point for our Kumano Kodo trek so we stayed in Tanabe only one day not realizing how much there is to do in Tanabe. If we ever come to Tanabe again, we will be sure to stay longer to enjoy all that there is to do there. I think we could have stayed a whole week if we weren't going on our trek.

Having visited Japan so many times, this trip was probably the best of all. I followed the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage and experienced both the people, the culture and the religion of ancient Japan. I spent in total about 4 days walking and all of the accommodations (family run b&b and a hot spring hotel) was all very clean, with tasty food and friendly people. I'd love to go back again and experience the other less famous trails of the same region.
had everything you needed! Most importantly, Aki-san went out of his way to pick me up and drive me from the station as it was a rainy day.
He also advised me on the best routes to take for the Kumano kodo trek and he is extremely knowledgeable on this area so please clarify your concerns with him.
There were 2 toilet bowls and 1 shower room. I could also refill my bottle from the tap that had a filter on it. Overall it was a comfortable stay and I was pleased.
Run by a really nice couple who provided lifts from Kii Tanabe station to the guesthouse and then from the guesthouse to the start of the Kumano Kodo the following forming in Takijiri Ōji. We got food before we arrived as there are no cooking facilities onsite but we did have a microwave in our room so could just bring something from the shop in the train station. For us it was a place to rest our heads for the night before the hike and it was perfect for that!
Simon was a wonderful host. He tried to help us have the best experience possible on our Kumano Kodo. Is also just a lovely human. The accommodation is in the most gorgeous place, because it was not in a central location. Simon works very hard to shuttle his guests to and from Tanabe and the trailhead. The house itself is beautiful and we enjoyed talking to him and learning about his small village of 70 people.
The owner Kohei san was very accommodating. I really felt I was home.
The coffee was great. You can have it anytime you want.
The onsen was perfect to relieve your tiredness after the hike. I really liked it because you can enjoy the onsen by yourself.
I chose japanese breakfast during my 2days stay. It was perfectly enough to start my day because I had a long walk in Kumano Kodo.
The location is perfect, just at the entrance of the village after the long hike, and right across the bus stop. The room is new and clean. Ike-san speaks good English and Mandarin and enjoys conversations with guests. The cooking is fun. Recommend to order the meal service since most restaurants close early and require reservations. Overall a great immersion experience on the Kumano Kodo.
A lovely, comfortable, clean, and cozy place in great location when walking the kumano kodo-
The beds are comfortable, the shower has good strong and warm water pressure. The house was very well equipped with everything we needed. Surrounded by rice fields and the lovely village. The owner is a great cook, her food was delicious. She was very kind and helpful.
The hostess was very nice and accommodating. It a shared bathroom and shower facilities. It was nice that there was microwave to warm up food should we need it. The location was very convenient since it was close to the JR train station. We had to catch a bus to Kii Takajiri for our Kumano Kodo hike the next morning. , a pleasant experience.
Close to the station and countless izakayas. This place has a very homely feel like we were at grandmas house. Aki san offered to pick us up from the station which was very generous. He also gave us suggestions on where to eat and where to go for our Kumano Kodo hike. English friendly.
Property was clean, very spacious and quiet. The hosts were exceptionally good at communicating with us about the property and our stay. They even provided travel information for us to read about the Kumano Kodo. We stayed here the night before the start of our hike.
A beautiful well renovated traditional Japanese house. The host was very friendly and helpful to plan our trips and hike on Kumano Kodo. The breakfast at the café was delicious. We will stay here on our next visit. A wonderful experience!
Mr Hiroki and his wife are so warm and welcoming. They kept in close contact with me upon arrival at Tanabe and when came to pick me up to their guest house. Naoko puts her heart into preparing all the meals and its so delicious!
Great service! Very good experience. Excellent value and very clean. The hotel is conveniently located right in front of Kii-Tanabe Station. The
surprisingly large bed was very comfortable. The staff was polite and helpful.
The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Kii-Tanabe station. The room was warm (winter) and clean and the bed quite comfortable.
Breakfast at the GF bar was delicious. One can choose between Western and Japanese. I chose Japanese.
- Friendly and welcoming staff
- Basic tolietries provided
- Room has its own AC/Heat unit I can control
- Breakfast of their delicious chiffon cake (so good!)
- Futon bedding was comfy
- Easy 10 minute walk from Kii-Tanabe
When I first saw the outside of the hotel, I thought it looked shabby, but my room was great, location was only four minutes walk to the station and tourist information centre and the breakfast was excellent.
The host Jian was amazing and the food cooked by his wife and daughter was exceptional, both for the dinner and in the next day's bento boxes for our day walking the Kumano Kodo
