After deciding at the last minute to swap to a bigger room the staff transferred my booking to their sister hotel next door 'The Elizabeth'. Great customer service.

Nice selection of shops. Very easy to get around the town. We ate in Dukes and at the Blue Ball in Sidbury.

Sidmouth is utterly enchanting!
Sidmouth is utterly enchanting! I feel cheated that I didn't know about it before - it's like Bath's seaside cousin! Beautiful architecture, easy to walk around and a simply wonderful cove-shaped seafront with great cliffs at either end. We are planning to stay for a week next time.

Sidmouth is a lovely town.
Sidmouth is a lovely town. Plenty of well known shops to peruse. Plenty of eateries to try out. Lots of hotels of different styles to choose from. Views are fantastic and so is the beach. Fields department store has a wide range of favourite clothing labels to explore & hopefully purchase. A very good bus service can take you to lots of Devon places and further.

Good choice of hotels and good shops in the town if the weather isn't great. (Loads of really good charity shops!)
Not many restaurants are open in the evenings (especially early in the week) so you need to book in advance. Myca, Pea Green Boat and The Loft are all good. Much more choice at lunchtime and good coffee/tea shops with lovely cakes. The Scott cinema and Marine theatre are both sweet and worth a visit.
Buses go to a few places if you don't have a car - and seem to be very reliable.
Jacobs Ladder beach and the Connaught Gardens are well worth visiting and are nicer than the town beach yet still very close to the centre.
Be aware that rocks etc can fall from the cliffs! The Jurassic coastline is amazing but it can crumble suddenly.

Sidmouth was a beautiful little seaside town with plenty of places to eat and drink!
Dog friendly beach in winter and lots of dog-friendly pubs/cafes! Beach is shingle/large pebble so not for everyone, but there’s a promenade/path the whole way along!
Lots of nice little independent shops & charity shops!
Parking gets very busy so you’re better off parking in the ‘weekend and walk’ car park slightly outside town - not far at all!
We visited in February but I’ve been told is gets very busy from May onwards.
There is a folk festival on the first weekend of August every year which I hear is great (but very busy)!

Clean and friendly, lovely relaxing atmosphere.
Great local pub, The Anchor, right in the middle of town, great service and food.
Really good variety of shops, with hardly any vacant stores.
Clean beach and great walk along the front.
A very well kept resort which makes a change.
Booked the Woodlands Hotel for a couple of nights so we could extend our holiday and spend a couple of days in Sidmouth. The hotel is lovely, staff are very friendly and helpful and our room was really comfy. We both had the full English breakfasts and they were lovely - I had a gluten free version too which was a real treat! Great location being just a few mins walk from Sidmouth town centre and the beach. Will definitely stay here again - loved it.
Our flight was delayed so we arrived after the restaurant closed. The owner and his wife made us welcome, even though they had closed for the night. They very kindly opened a bottle of wine and made us a wonderful dinner. Throughout the stay their hospitality was amazing. The owner would not let us walk to the bus stop, instead he very kindly drove us all the way to Sidmouth in his own car! They really could not have done more for us!
Stayed here before and will again. Excellent location, rooms are well equipped and comfy, especially like the provision of a bottle of water (glass not plastic). They seem to be quite ethical, with excellent breakfast options catering to a full range of sustainable provisions and lifestyle choices. They are less formal than their sister hotels, which is great for those young at heart as Dukes is the social hub of Sidmouth.
Beautiful hotel in sunny Sidmouth, fab location and stunning views. Super comfy bed. Lovely outdoor area if lucky with the weather as we were. Really lovely restaurant with fab views, good breakfast choice. Kate in Reception extremely helpful and all the staff we encountered were hard working, welcoming, professional and friendly. Sidmouth is a charming town and has something for everyone in walking distance.
We had room 35, perfect size , and bonus to us they allowed dogs, the room we had , was clean and had easy access to outside so that we could take our dog for a walk without the worry of disturbing anyone in the early hours. Right next to the hotel is a lovely walk along the river Sid. Room was very comfortable and breakfast was perfect, location also great , 5 min walk to Sidmouth coast
The location - right on Sidmouth seafront - was excellent. We had stunning sea views from our third floor balcony and we loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves and waking up to amazing views. The breakfasts were filling and delicious- they definitely set us up for the day! Staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Ideally situated, for us, for a stay in Sidmouth. Hotel was a short walk from town .
Lovely room, spacious and clean with comfortable bed.
Staff were really nice , friendly and helpful .
Very good choice at breakfast and cooked breakfast was excellent . We also had an evening meal which was very good and good value for money .
The location of the hotel was perfect, easy reach of everything Sidmouth has to offer. Great views of the sea from our room, even though maintenance was being carried out at the hotel, it didn't cause any issues for us. We would definitely stay at the hotel again.
Excellent choice at breakfast and dinner, cooked to order.
The hotel is spotlessly clean, the staff friendly and professional. Lovely garden with a variety of comfortable outdoor seating. Easy car parking, Covid restrictions were in place, and adhered to.
Staff were very welcoming and friendly. The grounds are lovely. Our room was bright and comfortable. The breakfast was good. We enjoyed a game of mini golf in the garden. The hotel is within easy walking distance of Sidmouth's amenities.
Friendly and efficient welcome. Choice of rooms. Large comfortable bedroom. Good beer selection and quality. Attractive menu. Good food on the whole. Nice breakfast room and selection. Relaxing vibes. Dog friendly.
We had a wonderful corner room with a balcony. It had windows on one side and glass doors opening to the balcony on the other. The views were amazing. The hotel is perfectly situated on the promenade.
Staff were all lovely, friendly, welcoming and helpful. Food was very good. Location to central Sidmouth excellent. The hotel was clean and well appointed, and of historical interest.
Location, five minutes over the hill to Sidmouth. The room, big, clean, well stocked, fab shower. Liz, super kind generous host. The breakfast! Amongst the best we ever had.
Dan and Megan where the perfect hosts, excellent breakfast cooked by Dan with their own chicken eggs. This is definately a hotel I would return to time and time again
Lovely hotel in a good location in Sidmouth. Good breakfast with very accommodating staff. Comfortable, clean rooms with tea and coffee making facilities.
