The Seagate, hotel in Croyde

The Seagate is a 17th-century hotel situated in the village of Appledore, overlooking the Torridge estuary.

Great location on sea front. Very dog friendly. Lovely staff, very friendly, went out of their way to seat us out of the way with our very nervous dog when we ate our meals, which was appreciated 😊 Rooms were clean and comfortable with everything we needed. Dog bowls etc, in the room. Food was fantastic and breakfast was amazing. Managed to park on site on first night, but public parking was only over the road, so really wasn’t an issue the following night. Would definitely return. Thank you

The views are amazing and the house is nice, everything worked apart from the outside lights, which was quite dangerous at night as there are lots of steps. The pictures make the house look a lot bigger that it is and with 8 adults sharing, a third bathroom would improve things. The parking situation is awful, despite there being plenty of room for at least 8 cars, you are only allowed to use 2 spaces halfway down the drive. The only overnight car park is 25 minutes walk away in Croyde which costs £15 per night. Do not break these rules as the community will report you to the letting agents as you are in full view of everyone driving in and out of Croyde. We were reported twice during our stay and it makes you feel like you are being watched! Furthermore, if you park any type of van (we were travelling around and stopped off), ‘the community’ assume extra people are sleeping in them and report you!!! Therefore, I would not return due to the parking situation and the fact that you feel under scrutiny.

Top notch resort. Beautiful scenery & beaches.

Top notch resort. Beautiful scenery & beaches. Great resturants make sure you book to avoid disappointment! I would recommend the Manor@ Croyde & the Queens Arms at Georgeham If you need grocery supplies make sure you bring them with you as there are no supermarkets or convieience stores. There are a couple of lovely ice cream/coffee/pastie shops. The roads are very narrow which can be awkward for cyclists runners & walkers. However there's some amazing off road trails I'd recommend Baggy Point for a run or walk (no bikes allowed). Cyclists there are the Tarka trails! I'll definitely be going back.

    Loved the Beaches.

Loved the Beaches. Croyde has always been a family favourite. However, there is a lack of available accommodation at present, due to the number of staycations I expect. Also a lack of local restaurants, again made worse by the pandemic (the Thatch and Buds were both closed due to staff having to self isolate while other restaurants were not taking bookings and you just had to queue and hope you could get a table. The Manor Inn was great though. The Croyde Bay resort accommodation was very over-priced for very basic amenities. We stayed in one of the cottages and it was shabby and small - not as advertised online. We paid as much as a top class hotel per night so we were disappointed.

The cottage was lovely and so was the location, the lady host friendly. However it’s misleading that the cottage is advertised as a ‘romantic holiday cottage in Croyde near beach.’ As it’s in Darracot, some way from the beach and Croyde. It is however in a lovely quiet village.

Croyde is a brilliant little village and amazing beach, perfect for boarding. Very busy at the weekends which made social distancing hard. The beach was big enough for everyone to have space away and there is lots of places to explore. Plenty of ice cream shops make this a fab holiday destination. Make sure u book for the local pubs as super busy.
