An unexpectedly attractive town with beautiful harbour and nearby mountain. Lanes often steep and narrow so car driving tricky but possible. Plenty of restaurants and a bakery offering very good breakfasts. A walk up to the castle above the town was enjoyable.

A little disappointed by the recommended Porto Guardes café...
A little disappointed by the recommended Porto Guardes café on the harbour because they didn't serve food till 7.15 pm & the salad was mainly out of a jar, i.e. white asparagus, sweet red peppers, an onion garnish on the boiled potatoes. Would have been better to have a fresh salad. However, the pimientos Padron & the Galician octopus were excellent.
The two mile walk from my hostel to the harbour was wonderful & quiet.
The owner was incredible to attend to us and make our check in smooth and easy. The room was perfect for our stay during the Camino. The next day, breakfast was great and check out was very easy. They allowed our bag-transfer company to drop off and pick up with ease. We would stay here again if we visit A Guarda again.
P.S. when we arrived the front desk was closed. If this happens to you fear not! Just message the property and the owner will arrive very quickly!
Location was incredible - totally worth the 30 minute walk from the port to get there!
Rooms are not super upgraded but that adds to the charm.
Hotel staff was amazing and so super helpful! 5 stars for the over the top effort of both of the people working the front desk during my stay.
The whole place is reminiscent of family resorts from the 50s with a luxury dining area, lovely patio restaurant, and nice rooms with comfy beds, all right on the beach.
It was a comfortable bed and a spacious private bathroom. By far the nicest hotel I stayed while doing the Camino for a really incredible price. The staff were very friendly. Even offered us cold water at reception knowing we were hot and tired from walking.
I didn't even know there was breakfast included. It wasn't a lot but fresh cake, an apple, but also actual coffee because there lobby area was also a cafe. Strongly recommend going here.
The host met us and left food and drink in the fridge for us. She was super helpful and checked in regularly during the stay with clear in structions. The place was pristine, comfortable, modern and in a fantastic location to explore A Guarda. There was a small gym downstairs too and bikes were available free of charge. The Wifi was also free and was very reliable.
The view from the hotel and surrounds is stunning! We could see the coast of Portugal from where we had walked on the Camino Portuguese Coastal route. The room was spacious and clean and the area was quiet. Staff were helpful, especially when getting a taxi to go down the mountain. Overall this hotel is great value for money.
In a good spot near the small beach/harbour - A Guarda is pretty small so almost everything is! The property was clean and tidy with helpful, friendly staff. Decent facilities including a functional kitchen and good shower facilities. It's low priced basic, functional accommodation primarily for people on the Camino.
Hotel Eli-Mar is located in a central location, close to restaurants, shops, grocery stores and the bay. There is a lovely long boardwalk along the bay, close by. The staff are very helpful and the breakfast was excellent in the next door bar. our room was clean and comfortable.
This was our second year staying at the hotel and we loved it even more this time. The location is perfect, the staff lovely and the room super. we really enjoyed the breakfast too and drinks one evening at the bar. we’ll be back again
What a perfect place to spend a few days. Super little apartment fully equipped
Great garden with sun all day
Parking right at the door
And a great place to get around La Guarda
A really good spot for walking and cycling
the hotel is an old convent and very picturesque yet with modern amenities. It is close to restaurants and the ocean and really beautiful inside. The staff was very friendly and helpful. the breakfast was good.
Well located nice hotel. It is obvious they are trying hard to give guests a pleasant experience and it shows. The room was big and very comfortable. Very nice breakfast included in the price we paid.
absolutely fabulous hotel. so full of history, loved it. everything very interesting. super rooms, nice breakfast. fabulous location on edge of town near the beach.
The staff was very nice and helpful. Clean. For a simple, basic hotel though, it was very overpriced. It was one of the very few available in town at that time.
