Just 400-yards from Pa Beach, Aotea Lodge Great Barrier is set among over 1.5 acres of serene parkland. The lodge was a perfect setting for our stay, we fortunately had pretty awesome weather so could make good use of the lovely outdoor decks. Our apartment was clean and well set up. Fiona, our host, was friendly, helpful and very accommodating. The lodge itself is just a short walk from Tryphena Bay, with an easy visit to the pub, cafe and local store.

Featuring barbecue facilities, a garden, and a terrace, Whalers Cottage provides accommodations in Whangaparapara with free WiFi and sea views. Whalers' cottage is in a lovely spot with superb views from the terrace and the upstairs bedrooms over the nearby inlet. It is in very good proximity of the start to the Aotea track. Unfortunately, the third and last day of the track was exceptionally wet and we arrived back at the cottage soaking wet. We soon forgot our wet journey once we were back at the cozy and warm cottage and had dried ourselves. It is a great place to relax and hang out with some friends. It is comfortable and fitted out with everything one needs for the stay.

Featuring a garden, Awesome View Cottage provides accommodations in Great Barrier Island. With garden views, this accommodation features a balcony. The cottage lives up to its name. It is on the top floor, and from the living room and one of the bedroom, the view is stunning. Surrounded by trees, we enjoyed the sounds of native birds (tūī, pīwakawaka, kereru, kākā...). The full kitchen has all you need to cook a good feed. Glinis was very friendly and had advice for us for our stay on the island. If we ever go back to NZ, and can get to Aotea, we will definitely book this cottage again!

Colville (21 miles from Great Barrier Aerodrome)
Set among enchanting native bush, and just as few minutes’ drive from breathtaking New Zealand Tangiaro Retreat Lodge offers modern cottages, which blend gently into the natural surroundings. We arrived at Tangiaro Resort on the evening of some of the worst rains ever experienced in Auckland. We left the airport as the flooding began and the drive to the Resort was challenging with heavy rain and land slips on the road. The Resort kept in contact with us and changed us to a larger cabin #14 which was lovely. Spacious rooms, large verandah, BBQ, spa bath and comfortable furniture. As it rained almost continuously for the next two days we were pleased to have such comfortable accommodation, lots of food with us and the Resort Cafe to visit. The location is very remote (14Km of gravel road to reach it) but so peaceful and surrounded by wonderful walks which sadly we could not do. Due to the weather the internet and TV were often not working so it was very much back to an old style holiday before the days of constant technology. A beautiful natural area.

A beautiful place of peace. The facilities were very clean and our room was super cosy with the most comfy beds. Everyone was very polite and made us feel most welcome. Thank you for having us hopefully we will be able to come again and get to meditate with you all. Photo is the night view from our room straight to venus :)
Coromandel Town (29.9 miles from Great Barrier Aerodrome)
Anglers Lodge offers accommodations in Coromandel Town, 9.3 miles from Driving Creek Railway and Potteries. This beachfront property offers access to free Wifi and free private parking. The location up on Coromandel Peninsula is simply beautiful. We walked across the road to the rocky beach for sunset each evening, where you could hear a pin drop, very peaceful! This is a lodge that caters to campers as well as folks renting kitchenette rooms, like us. People come here for the fishing, and I heard it was very good. If we had stayed another day, it would have been fun to go out on a charter boat for a day of fishing. We went on excursions each day, one was to hike the Coromandel Coastal Walkway, just fantastic. There is no shortage of fun things to see and do here. You do have to bring groceries with you, as there is no restaurant nearby.

The hot springs were amazing - especially in the very top pool that wasn't too hot. Mermaid pools are a must. Beaches were amazing. Highly recommend Great Barrier Lodge for eating - hands down the best place we ate, great food and service unlike most of the other places on the island. Driving on the narrow roads was a bit hairy at times with the locals driving very fast.
A lovely forest covered island with some great beaches and nice walks including one to natural hot pools. Shops all have limited opening hours and some of the local people were not the friendliest, although many were. Restaurants were not common and many were closed during our stay. The roads were good to drive on and a rental car is an essential to get places and the rates are very reasonable. There was a lack of birds and bird noise all over the island which may be due to a large number of rats. Some good swimming beaches along with some short, long, hard and easy walks through some great native bush. Medlands beach was a favourite stop for a good walk and a swim.
The Island, second biggest in Aotearoa New Zealand is like stepping back a few years but everyone has solar power , gas or generator. A beautiful island . . .sorry I can't write more. Booking. com . . please contact me . (I've tried to unsuccessfully to contact you. Why not??) I require a refund of $400. The only night spent at Eco Bungalows was barely worth $50 - so miserable were we there due to the coldness and the dim lighting. The cottage was gloomy. The hostess, was charming and helpful but the telephone number was not working, though I tried many times leading up to our stay.
