Excellent place for a long weekend visit. The city has been given a good upgrade on public areas and there are very nice walks and spaces to chill along the Nervion river, the old part of the town or the new city.
Good transport system and good connection to the airport and train station.
Great place for pintxos and chiquiteo (tapas and bar hoping) as well as modern art (guggenheim museum really stands out), or just simply chill in a nice urban setting. Plenty of shopping spots too.

The Guggenheim of course, but the city is elegant, bright and bustling. The bridges alone are worth going there for. We ate at small cafes and pincho bars of which there are countless numbers. There is an underground metro and tram routes, but we walked. There is a pleasant walk along the river.

Bilbao is a beautiful city set on the river , lots to see and do when there and you definately need 3 days to cover it all , we went out to the bay of biscay on one of the days and it was worth it ,we travelled on the orange line to Niguri got off there walked the coast line and got back on metro at Areeta back to abando where out hotel is. My main tip is try to get a main meal in the middle of the day as we found it hard to eat at night apart from Tapas bars which really didnt suit a gluten intolerant person in the party .

Absolutely fabulous city.
Absolutely fabulous city. Spectacular food, people are so friendly and helpful and the city itself easy to get around (get the barik card) and with so much to see.
We ate in pintxo bars in Plaza Nueva numerous times. We also popped into cafes, had lunch in Las Cepas close to the Guggenheim (menu del día €15). I had dinner with a group in a Txoco (fabulous experience).
The metro was fabulous and runs all night on a Saturday. We also got a taxi to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (€60 between 4 of us). No tix required on Monday to access the site although the church was closed. There's a restaurant by the car park with great food and views. We then called a taxi to take us to Bermeo (there is a bus but every 2 hours). This cost another €20. Bermeo is a pretty fishing town. We got the train back to Bilbao using the barik card - in total it cost 4 of us about €5 to return on the train.
Highly recommend the funicular to Artxanda (great views) and generally explore the city. It can be chilly so be prepared to wrap up.
I wish I had discovered Bilbao years ago but so glad I have now. I'll definitely return.

A wonderful city to visit, which offers everything you’d ever desired to do, from cultural to sports activities, and the food is absolutely amazing. I would recommend “Cork” for a 360 degrees deep dive into the local food and wine or beer, worth at least one visit. Another place called “Mugi” had the best Secreto Iberico and Presa Iberica. The vibe is wonderful. Great ham and cheese selection in one of the old town’s shop, good prices. Beautiful shops all around the whole town. A wonderful holiday.

Bilbao is easy to get around.
Bilbao is easy to get around. We used the metro and the tram quite a lot. The Barik card makes public transport much cheaper and it’s really easy to use.
Lots of churches, bars, cafes and restaurants. The people are really friendly and I managed to get by with my very limited Spanish!
We loved Bilbao and I think 3 or 4 days would keep you busy. We liked the Guggenheim as it’s a bit different. The fine arts museum (free) is worth seeing as well. The highlight for us was the Vizcaya bridge which was amazing, I’ve never seen anything like it! Walk across the top and get the gondola back.
Plaza Nueva had lots of bars and restaurants with great food but it does get really busy. A great place to try the Pintxtos is the indoor market which lots of the locals also use.
What can I say, the moment we arrived Lydia took care of us, showing us a map of the city, where to park , how to travel in the city, what to go and see... you name it. The room was more like a small apartment with three separate room; Bedroom, Bathroom and sitting room. The hotel is slap bang in the middle of the old town (Casco Viejo), so the moment you walk out of the door, you have arrived! Tram, Bus and Metro are all in short walking distance from the hotel. Next time I visit Bilbao, and trust me I will! I know where I will be staying!
The rooms were comfortable; , the rooftop breakfast was top quality with a view of the Guggenheim! My daughter was hospitalized in the early morning hours of the one night of our stay & the staff helped make EVERYTHING easy and so helpful for the two of us who speak only English (from the states). We needed to stay on an extra night so my daughter could rest and they were 100% accommodating on short notice. It made an unplanned not so easy moment turn into a very comfortable one. Thank you all at the Gran Hotel Domine Bibao!!!
Perfect location across the street from Guggenheum museum, a short walk to the old town along the river. Compact but nice gym/wellness area. The rooms are nicely appointed but not the most inspiring view when looking into the courtyard at the shaft of the giant phallic sculpture. The lavender spray at turndown is a lovely touch. The staff are super and always willing to help. Good parking facilities and quite accessible, not as tight or difficult to navigate as many city centre hotels in Spain.
The place is ok, is in a nice area in Bilbao, like 20 minutos walking to the old town and as well 25 minutes walking to reach Guggenheim, it has some nice bars and restaurants around if you want to have your breakfast there, If you come with a car you have a parking in the hotel and as well a free parking streets 15 min walking distance, we park there and as Bilbao is a safe city we brought our car there for 3 nights, 0 problems.
The rooms are ok, confortable mattress same for the pillow.
Excellent location in the middle of Bilbao old town - could not have been better! The hotel was very clean. It does not have a reception and the hotel requires you to complete a self check in (and submit your passport details) prior to checking in. There is a hotel around the corner that the hotel is linked to that has a 24hr reception and luggage storage. The room itself was clean and comfortable. There is a kitchenette with a fridge (but there is no stove so you can’t cook).
The service from the reception was beyond expectations. They messaged me in advance and accepted my small request with a smile. The service from the staff was excellent . The place is clean and taken care of very well. They explained very patiently even the smallest doubt i had being a first timer in Spain. They speak English well. The lobby was a nice place to sit with a lot of good vibes.
The location was the best that we could hope for, a gorgeous leisurely walk along the river to the Guggenheim museum which was the main reason of our visit to Bilbao
But the great surprise was the hotel's location on the edge of the old town with so much atmosphere and fabulous bars and restaurants
Behind the classic façade were great contemporary interiors
A fresh Boutique Hotel in the best location in Bilbao, the area of the old city. All interesting sites were easily accessible by foot in a few minutes. Rooms were spacious and clean, staff very friendly and the all day bar restaurant on the ground floor added a final touch to our stay.
Strongly recommended for a wonderful stay in Bilbao
Such a beautiful hotel. We loved everything about it! It was centrally located, with a great view out to the river. The lobby was large with such friendly receptionists that welcomed us to Bilbao! The room was elegant and large, very modern and top-notch! The breakfast was fabulous, the best in our three-week stay in Spain! Kudos!
comfortable, clean, stylish and centrally located hotel (very near Guggenheim museum). Very helpful reception staff. we travelled with a toddler and the hotel provided us with a comfortable and stable cot, which came with a cuddly toy and a baby bath. nice breakfast. we will choose it again when in Bilbao next time.
This a terrific property located in the heart of Bilbao. The hotel is new and has every amenity you need. Breakfast is robust with made to order egg options. Parking is on site and only €20 per night. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a terrace level room and loved the outdoor space.
Very spacious air conditioned rooms, very contemporary but yet functional design.
Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. private parking facility about 200 m from hotel.
Great location on the river and close to the centre of the old town. Perfect location to discover Bilbao
We liked everything, it was the best hotel we had during our stay in Spain. Great room, very spacious, great AC. Very modern building and everything is still new. Fully recommend. If we ever come back to Bilbao we will choose the same place.
We loved the location being at the center of town, next to Old Town, close to the Guggenheim and the Bilbao Museum of Fine Arts. Also walking distance to the beautiful churches. Restaurants, cafes and bars also all around the hotel.
The location of the hotel is excellent - 15 mins from the old center and 15 mins from the new and the Guggenheim museum.
The room was basic a bit old style and a bit small but overall it was clean and ok for some nights in Bilbao.
No breakfast as it is a budget hotel. Location is perfect, centre of the Old Town. Very basic but reflected in the price, which is very reasonable. Very nice staff. Great location for exploring Bilbao.
Beautiful hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable, large room with the best shower ever. Large, fluffy towels. Close to transit options to see Bilbao. Underground garage for our vehicle.
Everything...From the staff to the location...You could not ask for a better hotel in Bilbao...Personal attention in an laid back environment makes for a enjoyable stay...
Location was perfect, service was great. Breakfast was good. Customer service exceeded expectations. Will recommend this hotel to my friends in Bilbao. Thank you
