Excellent little town in the most stunning area with super friendly people and great options for multiple activities such as hiking, stand-up paddling, sailing, playing tennis, swimming, sunbathing, playing golf or mini golf, riding bikes or taking the ferry or local tram to explore the area! There are great restaurants as well, where every wish of yours is easily fulfilled! We absolutely loved it and will come back for sure!

Maurach is the gateway to Achensee area.
Maurach is the gateway to Achensee area. From here there is easy access to 3 ski resorts at Maurach, Pertisau and Achenkirch. Lots of outdoor winter activities on offer in addition to downhill skiing, such as, cross-country skiing, tobogganing (at Pertisau and Christlum Achenkirch), winter hiking, guided nature walks, ice skating, swimming. Buses are reliable and free to guests staying in the area with an Achensee card. For self-catering there are 2 very good supermarkets in Maurach. There is an hourly bus which connects Maurach to the mainline train station Jenbach.

Maurach is a cosy town on the southern shore of Achen Lake, and easily reachable by public transport (train to Jenbach, then bus 8332 to Maurach or alternatively in summer, the very scenic Achen Lake Railway). Fantastic views over the surrounding mountains. Aside from an art museum (Notburga) and technology museum ("Museumwelt") there aren't a lot of attractions, so it's mostly the mountains and the lake you'd be visiting Maurach for. Maurach has some ski infrastructure, but advanced skiers will want to take the ski bus to Achenkirch (ca. 20 - 25 min).

We visited in October for mountain hiking. The area is beautiful with numerous hiking routes in the mountains, along the lake shore and in the valleys. The village has plenty of restaurants, a couple of supermarkets and a variety of other shops. We travelled by train to Jenbach and then by bus to Maurach. Bus travel in the local area is free with a visitor card provided by your accommodation (and with confirmation of booked accommodation on first arriving). It wasn't a disadvantage not to have a car. Our favourite restaurant was the Felderer Stadl. Amazing value, tasty food, and friendly staff.JanetUnited Kingdom - 10Scored 10

The spa is great and they have sunbeds in the yard where you can relax reading a book. Location is quite close to the lake or mountain trails. A bus stop is also close by. Breakfast was very good and they have a really nice restaurant if you're too tired to go out for dinner. I will come back here for sure.
