The walk to Chittenango Falls was spectacular! Park in parking lot and hike down to the falls (We are in our 70's and it was a bit tough hiking back up but it's worth it!)
We also went to the Eric Canal Museum and it is small and packs a huge punch for each inch of space it has! My wife is not fond of museums but she loved this one! The museum puts you into the mind of a contemporary of that time - economic consequences, technological challenges, staffing, tooling, funding, etc. and packs into a concise presentation. Many taverns and stores grew up along the canal so the owners often grew gardens for fresh herbs and foods to sell - and the museum has a small garden replicating this - Again a concise, but superbly well done.
It was interesting to see the clever, clever, clever ways the museum used to educate and wow its visitors. We were in awe of the way the museum demonstrated the extent of the height challenges - by using the walls of the stairs. Take the elevator up (it has its own delights) and walk down the stairs. When you are half way down - stop and admire the walls! Somebody was very clever!
The Dark Horse Tavern was excellent. 4312 East Genesee. Had great lunch with excellent broiled chicken (lots) and kale, cranberries, etc. Large and all fresh ingredients. Rueben sandwich was excellent. Draft beers were outstanding! On top of this...the staff were friendly, attentive, funny and spot on with excellent service. Nice people!
Very pet-friendly hotel with great staff. The continental breakfast was excellent and fully-stocked with great coffee. Pet fee was $75 for one dog, free parking. I was here as my dog had a surgery at the animal dental specialists down the street (also excellent) and they allowed me to stay later with no charge which was so helpful.
The restaurant on location was expensive as hell but tasty and had a great vibe is you just want a drink at the bar solo-traveling. Overall, excellent stay.
There were four of us, traveled by car - the parking was free, Our room was spacious and very clean. Linen and towels - white, no complaints. The breakfast was excellent - freshly baked waffles, yogurt, a variety of pastries, eggs, burgers, fruits, cereals, milk, juices, tea, coffee! The service of this two star hotel was beyond our expectations! Thanks to the staff!
