Dubuque offers a unique blend of historical charm, natural beauty, and modern amenities. The city is easy to navigate. We loved Habits Coffee & Mini Donut Co. It is a perfect place for avid sports fans. We took in a college basketball game during the day and a Fighting Saints hockey game in the evening.

Beautiful hilly city. Excellent places to eat.
Beautiful hilly city. Excellent places to eat.
A very 1930's vibe. Wonderful brick buildings along the Mississippi. Very little modern development.
Due to the hilly terrain, Dubuque was the first city in the country to have cable TV. You will not see a TV antenna. The Stallone movie F.I.S.T., based in the 30's, was filmed in Dubuque because of that and the buildings.
Having said that, it is HILLY. Driving can be very intimidating. A few times the view reminded me of San Francisco.
Take it slow and fire up that navigation app.
You'll do fine.

Dirty rooms. Caulking that was really dirty in bathroom.
Dirty rooms. Caulking that was really dirty in bathroom. Toilet made loud noise when getting up. Husband said toilet was not level. Bugs in the room. Thick dust in the vents. My stay was really disgusting in the room. Would not recommend anyone staying in that dirty environment. After that experience we stay the rest of our trip in Best Westerns which we had a very good experience. Before Dubuque we stayed in only Wyndhams rewards rooms but we didn’t after the Days Inn experience.

Restaurant downtown for breakfast Sunshine family restaurant was very good. Homecooked food and family atmosphere. Not pricey. Had dinner at Tony Romas and was excellent. Short staffed but staff working was very good. Had a 30-minute wait to sit and was worth every minute

Dubuque has some good tourist attractions, such as the Missippi River Museum and Aquarium, the Eagle Point Park that overlooks the river, and a really beautiful botanical garden. There were some nice murals & probably some cool local stores downtown (didn't really explore downtown), but the city itself is not that pretty or notable & the outskirts are your typical Midwest city affair. I stayed 3 nights & that was the right amount of time.
We used your hotel in 1999 for our wedding group block, and occasionally still stay there when travelling through the area. I am always impressed with how friendly, knowledgeable and helpful the staff are. The hotel is always clean. Our double queen kitchenette was clean and very comfortable. The pool and hot tub are great. the jets in the hot tub seemed a little weak on this trip, but it was nice and hot! Great value and experience for the price of the room
The motel was in a good location for our road trip along the Great River Road. We had two rooms, my room was fine for a night‘s sleep. Unfortunately, the other room my friends were staying in smelled really unpleasant, wasn’t very clean (stained bedding and insects) - They didn’t get a good sleep. What’s more the breakfast selection was slightly less than other motels we have stayed at during our trip.
Richards House delivered everything, and more, that we expected. We loved the classic warmth of the home with its fabulous decor and convenience to the city of Dubuque. The generous and tasty home cooked breakfast was most welcome together with the drinks (including alcoholic) and sweet treats that were there for the taking.
The hotel was clean and in a great area. The staff I found to be helpful and friendly, Parking wasn't spectacular, but in all it didn't change my mind on the hotel itself. I did find the cost to be pretty expensive over all though.
I was most impressed that the shower head actually worked like it's supposed to. That was the first time in any hotel stay that it wasn't spraying everywhere! It's the smallest things that make the biggest differences!
The location was our main reason for staying and paying what we did. We were seeing a concert at Five Flags Center in downtown so it was walking distance from the hotel. The breakfast was good and filled us up.
Robert the Innkeeper was very welcoming, has a great sense of humor, and interacted with us--showing us to our rooms, telling stories, cooking for us. We all appreciated him very much.
