El Calafate is a small city in Argentinean Patagonia, situated in the foothills of the Andes and on the shores of Argentino Lake. Blending colourful wooden houses and Alpine-influenced architecture, it is the gateway to the Glaciers National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Booking.com offers a wide range of accommodation in El Calafate and surroundings, from 5-star hotels to cheap hostels.
The area was originally inhabited by the ‘Aonikenk’ people, while the modern settlement grew at the beginning of the 20th century as a refuge along the wool trade route, taking its name from the native blueberry bush known as ‘Calafate’. The town was founded by the Argentinean government in 1927 to promote the colonisation of the area, but its development started only after the creation of the National Park, in 1937.
The famous Perito Moreno Glacier is 80 km from the city. Mount Fitz Roy, the small town of El Chaltén, the romantic Onelli Bay, Lago del Desierto, and Roca Lake are some of the impressive landmarks that make up Argentina‘s 2nd-largest natural reservation. If you want to experience Patagonia’s languid vastness and tranquillity, try some of El Calafate’s rural accommodation or ‘estancias’.

The personnel at the hotel was tremendously helpful.
The personnel at the hotel was tremendously helpful. They helped me in a difficult situation where I had to buy airline tickets on an emergency basis. They helped organize an excursion, a trip to Perito Moreno and to organize transportation for my group of 13 to and from the airport.
My room was beautiful; in fact, all of our rooms were wonderful.
This is a quiet place.

The only thing to really do is visit the glacier.
The only thing to really do is visit the glacier. I thought we could do more to make an extra day worthwhile but the tours to visit the other parts of the park were super expensive. All tours in the area were way too pricey and you can’t really do anything else without a tour. The restaurants are good, but in general I think Chaltén has a lot more to do and see.

The trip to the Glacier was memorable, the people friendly and helpful. Restaurants were excellent and you could walk anywhere in town easily from any hotel in the central area. We had a lot of fun here! Highly recommend the Patagonia Queen Boutique Hotel. Rafael will take great care of you!

I am a tour guide and I come to calafate with groups, at the end of my work I have a day or two of rest for myself. it is a beautiful city. although it should improve its internet service (it is regular everywhere) and they have too many dogs loose in the streets although they are not aggressive.

El Calafate is the place to be for visiting the famous Perito Moreno Glacier. We did the Big Ice Adventure with Hiele Aventura and it was amazing. The town itself is fine but very touristy.
The waffle café elba'r and the Patagonia Brewery were the best places we went to eat and drink.
The Glaciarium was interesting, a very text-heavy museum, lots to read. We went to the Ice Bar there too, however I'd already been to the same concept in another city - if you've been to one, you've been to them all.

I did not like this hotel.
I did not like this hotel. It was miserable and did not live up to its advertising in booking at all. No good cuisine , no hot tub as advertised This is not a 5@4 star whitely and you are advertising it incorrectly
I researched many hotels in El Calafate' and read the good reviews about this property. Everything was better than the reviews said they were. I love when hotels are very aware of reviews and work to solicit reviews from their guests. Those are properties that know they do a great job for their patrons.
- Multi-lingual staff here, which is a very big deal in Argentina.
- Breakfasts were excellent
- Hotel was clean, quiet and the rooms were nice
- Great location
If I come back to El Calafate, we will stay here again for sure.
The staff was brilliant! Informal enough and went the extra mile to help with each of our many questions and necessary arrangements.
Breakfast was generous and served in the same room that turns into evening restaurant. We had one meal there and it was abundant and tasty. The location is out of town centre but at relatively short walking distance and very quick on a taxi. Nearby there's one of the best restaurants of El Calafate with great food and fab views towards town, lake and mountains and perfect at sunset.
Will always recommend this hotel to anyone staying in el calafate. Fantastic hotel with a amazing restaurant. The hotel is very picturesque, comfortable and clean, with very kind and attentive staff. They have an amazing chef at their restaurant, with delicious, homemade, thoughtfully-prepared food and desserts. Their food is amazing and their dessert menu is incredible! They also offer delicious boxed lunches to-go if you’re going on tours during the day. I would 100% stay here again.
Mariano; the owner and host, organized amazing experiences with short Notice. Too many to list; but our favorites included Kayaking, awesome El Chalten hike, Petit Perito Moreno Glacier hike( our favorite!). The restaurant Reccomendations we’re delicious!
Mariano is a Local, not only a Patagonia expert but a degreed profesional that can plan trips for amateurs like us to profesional hikers! Madre Tierra is the best place to stay in El Calafate!
We arrived late for one night and were off again the next morning. For us the late evening mountain-lake sunset view from the second floor was a great introduction to Argentina.
The room was very cozy, clean, and comfortable and close to the airport. It was not fancy, but it was great value for the money.
WIFI was good, the heater worked, and the hosts were very helpful & generous in their assistance.
Everything is perfect about this place !
The hotel is super charming and with great views to the stunning landscape of El Calafate.
Everything is super clean and the room super spacious :)
The breakfast is amazing !!!☺️
The stuff super nice and make everything to make you feel good.
The meals that they serve are also very taste !
I would come back !
Kau Kaleshen is a small inn with high quality mentality. There was not a single aspect that wasn't well taken care of. Actually, it was the best service we enjoyed in our whole trip, even though we stayed in 4 an 5 star hotels in other places. All information and pictures in Kau Kaleshen's Booking.com page are true and fair.
Couldn't understand the reviews giving this hotel super low scores. Our stay was great. Considering the value, the location, included breakfast, we couldn't fault it. Some of the equipment felt like they could do with an update but that's quite trivial. Even the set dinner was good value.
You find everything in the apartment you need and even more. We felt very welcome. José Maria took us even to the supermarket after we arrived quite late. The next day he helped us again. It was one of the best experiences we had so far in Argentina. We had a very good time.
I’ve stayed in a lot of hostels and hotels in Argentina and the ease, friendliness and helpfulness of the staff really stood out. It seemed like they all really enjoy their jobs and went out of their way to book tours, taxis, lunch. It was great value for money.
Great property in the heart of El Calafate, and possibly one of the few hotels with amenities like a gym and pool. Unfortunately, could not enjoy the pool as its hours of operations were 10am and later. The staff were helpful, property was quaint and charming.
A small family run hotel very well situated just at the entrance of the city . Room is confortable ,clean , bright with good hot shower ! The receptionist was very nice and helpful for good restaurants in city
Very good price / quality hotel in El Calafate .
This hotel is awesome! Very nice decoration. Great view of the mountains/desert/city. Close to the main street (10min walk). Breakfast was really good (best medialunas I've ever tasted in Argentina). Staff was very friendly and receptive.
beautiful view overlooking Lago Argentina. 2nd bedroom a plus for belongings. Grill and patio a great plus - we were able to have our first self-cooked meal in a month.
Mary, the owner, is incredibly responsive, warm and kind.
The best part of this hotel was enjoying breakfast with a mountain view and the friendly hotel cat. The hotel staff was very helpful in packing us lunch and arranging a taxi. The room bathrooms were very nice.
location is the best. walk out of the hotel you are right in the town center.
one of the staff can speak very fluent English. It really helps a lot for English speakers.
