Sofia is the Bulgarian capital and its largest city, situated at the foot of Vitosha Mountain in the very center of the Balkan Peninsula. With a variety of architectural styles, picturesque scenery and easy access to outdoor activities, this city is a definite must-see!
From well-preserved city walls built in the 7th century BC through to the early Medieval buildings. From the 4th-century Rotunda St. George and 10th-century Boyana Church with its stunning 13th-century frescoes to Socialist-era monumental constructions, Sofia is a real treat for history lovers.
Most of the popular landmarks are located in the Oborishte district, the most central part of the city featuring plenty of greenery, cobbled streets and the most popular landmark, the Neo-Byzantine Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
Sofia has plenty of natural sites too, including the renowned thermal and mineral springs, the primary reason Thracians established the city here before the 7th century BC. Enjoy a walk in the most popular parks, the Borisova gradina or the impressive Vitosha Nature Park with more than 6,500 acres within the city limits.

The center is small and the most important can be seen in one day. It is not a matter of skipping the city, but I think that visiting Sofia has to be combined with going out of the city and visiting the amazing mountains of Bulgaria and other places.

There is lots to see and do in Sofia, so it’s worth staying a few days. Sofia is a city with a very rich history and culture. Consider doing a walking tour with Sofia Free Tours or checking out the Red Flat exhibit about daily life in Communist Bulgaria. There are also lots of museums to choose from on rainy days. There are all sorts of tours outside of Sofia as well (Rila monastery, wine tasting, cave exploring, and hiking). There are also many different types of restaurants to try.

I love Sofia this was my second trip there in 5 months. This time enroute to Veliko Tarnova.
It’s a busy city. Make sure if you fly to Sofia you take Yellow cabs.their charging system is very fair and I’ve met some really helpful cabbies.
Sofia is very alive and of course there is a very strong cultural quarter there with a Univercity and lots of interesting history and art.
Some of the buildings look a bit crumbly. However, there appears to be lots of improvements being made to the infrastructure. Building being modernised and brought into the 21 st century.
Nice place.

Sofia is a town with many churches of different denominations. It is easy to walk around and the metro is very easy to navigate. You can use your credit card to tap on and off and the trains are frequent, modern and comfortable. The train line from the airport is only about USD 2.00. The Rila Monastery outside of Sofia is a recommended day trip. Our tour cost Euro 35 per person. The most amazing thing is the archaeology. Throughout the city there is large numbers of archaeology digs exposing historical buildings, with Bulgarian and English interps.
The location is excellent if you're arriving by bus at the station, and still close to the city center by metro. The check in process is very easy with no delays (self check-in), and the host is very friendly.
The studio is small, but cozy, and there's everything you need to cook. It's equipped with a mini oven, electrical stove top and big fridge. The shower style is the typical one in Bulgaria, with no separate shower cabin, but the water pressure and temperature is very good.
I booked this hotel for my mom - she is temporarily extremely disabled after an accident in Bulgaria and I informed the front desk clerk that she might need extra help, as she was traveling back alone after an accident. Anthony went above and beyond to make her feel comfortable and provide her with whatever she needed. He kept me updated the entire stay, and made me feel 100% better after a stressful few days worrying about her. I really can't thank the staff here enough.
Good lighting in room, making it easy to read, which is very much a plus point for me. Breakfast very adequate in all respects, apart from the coffee (well, the version I chose, probably wrongly!). Staff accommodating, helpful, friendly and efficient. Shower excellent, hot and powerful, and unlike in most hotels in Bulgaria constructed so that water doesn't run all over the floor! Overall I can certainly recommend.
You couldn’t ask for a better location. It is right in the city centre and the pedestrianised street of Vitosha is right on your doorstep. A lot of attractions can be explored on foot. The hotel is sorrounded by loads of restaurants. Cactus which is a highly rated restaurant is 3 minutes walk and the traditional Bulgarian restaurant Moma is also about 5 minutes walk. The room was massive and it was so quiet.
Hotel is located in a very green place with a lot of trees, they have free parking and places for a rest on a territory. An apartment itself is nice and clean, except bathroom because of smell. The bed is not comfortable (at least, for me). The host is very nice, she cooked a breakfast- omelette with Bulgarian cheese and tea or coffee (5 euro)
Place is good for a one night😊
The place is very clean and tiny, with a sense of design. It's in one of the best neighborhoods where plenty of bars and restaurants are nearby and atmosphere is just so cozy. But also it's located on a quiet street so you get good sleep. There's also a common kitchen where you get free coffee and tea. Definitely a great choice for staying in Bulgaria!
Extremely friendly staff with good recommendations for restaurants and activities. The room was spacious and spotless. You get your own fridge with freezer and your own washing machine. The airconditioning works great. The location of the hotel is peaceful and a short walk from the city center. All in all perfect for a stay in Sofia.
It's close to the center and 2 minutes from the metro. Basic facilities but all functioning perfectly. I liked the outdoors area where I enjoyed my morning coffee and smoking in peace (coffee that you have to buy from outside the hotel). Friendly staff. If you don't want to spend much, it is good value for money.
Right in the best center of the capital of Bulgaria. The best restaurants and shops only 50m walk. Small but very cozy hotel. Extremely clean with comfortable rooms, comfortable beds. Very good breakfast including everything for every taste.
Friendly and helpful staff welcomes guests as part of the family.
The location of the hotel is in the perfect Center surrounded from the best restaurants and beer pubs that Sofia can offer. Staff are very helpful and friendly I would rate them with 10 out of 10.
Definitely on my next stay in Sofia Bulgaria I will visit DITER hotel.
До нови срещи хотел DITER
Good location and easily accessible, right on the boulevard Bulgaria. Good size with modern decor studio flat. Fully fitted kitchen. Parking is available as well. Reasonably priced considering other apart hotels prices in the area. Clean. Secured access. In overall - recommended.
The hotel was amazing. So far I never been in better one in Bulgaria. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Always ready to help and support. Definitely I will visit the hotel again and I would recommend it to anyone who want peaceful and quiet places.
The appointment was clean and spacious. It had everything needed for a comfortable stay for a family. Best shower of all of the places we stayed in Bulgaria!
Short walk to the metro. Private parking. Easy communication with the host.
Maison Sofia has become our favourite hotel in Bulgaria and perhaps anywhere in the world. Staff are lovely. The sauna, pool and exercise room are top class. The area is quiet yet easy to access. Pretty much perfect.
- nice clean room
- good breakfast
- good free private parking
- good value for the money
- the hotel is rated as 3 stars, but according to our experience in Bulgaria it is more like a 4 stars hotel
I’ve been to the Hotel many times and am always welcomed as an old friend. They can’t do enough for me.What a pleasure to be there in such an incredible location for my last evening in Bulgaria.
