Bansko is a good alternative for skiing when you cannot afford to go in the Alps .
Very good options for accommodation and for eating out in local restaurants.
You need to know that the ques for gondola in the morning can get pretty long and well exceed one hour wait.

Bansko is a city that captures the heart with its stunning beauty, effortlessly blending picturesque landscapes with the quaint charm of its streets. However, visitors should be wary of the numerous tourist traps that dot the city, often overshadowing its genuine offerings. Despite this, with a bit of diligence and local insight, one can uncover hidden gems like the small family-run 'mexana' we were fortunate to find. Serving homemade food with warmth and authenticity, it stood out as a beacon of traditional hospitality amidst a sea of commercialized eateries.
On the flip side, the popularity of Bansko's ski slopes comes with its own set of challenges, notably the excessive queues for the gondola lift, which can significantly dampen the skiing experience. Opting for a bus ride to the slopes proved to be a wise decision, bypassing the long wait and leading us directly to the well-maintained pistes. While Bansko offers much in terms of scenic beauty and skiing opportunities, visitors must navigate its less appealing aspects to fully enjoy what this charming city has to offer.

We didn`t know Bansko was so popular with the British 19/ 30 groups so when we arrived (09.00 o`clock in the eving we were shocked by noise and amount of drunken people in the streets and bars. I is like Benidorm in Spain. Bansko is to big for her wintersport facilities so the skilifts were totally overrrun and the lower pistes were way to busy. Up 3 hours waiting time on some days on the gondola. Prices for ski passes, equipment rental etc are really ok . Altough the pistes are nice they were way to busy. Food in restaurants and drinks are way overpriced.
We had a different Bulgarian breakfast on each of the 3 days we stayed here. All of them were excellent. The immediate neighbourhood is pedestrianised and street parking is very limited. There was a single parking space on site at a cost of 10 лв per day but it was a bit of squeeze to get into it and I only have a smallish car. The location was spot on, right in the centre of the old town with plenty to see and do. It is a lovely, quirky old style hotel with many interesting artefacts to look at.
We liked everything.
The hotel is perfect for family with kids.
Food was great, staff were nice and friendly and the apartment was spacious and clean.
There is kids club which is super convenient and the swimming pool is suitable for children.
The guys in the ski rent place located in the hotel were also super nice and friendly.
It's the third time we visit this hotel and we will definitely come back.
Great Bloody Mary and live music at the lobby.
As we visited during down season, we were upgrades from a hotel room to a 1 bed apartment so amazing value for money. Spa was very quiet during this time too. Breakfast was ordered from a menu, though it looks like it's normally a buffet, I guess it makes more money sense with so few guests not to put on a buffet. In the non-ski season, the location is a little out of the way of most things, but we didn't mind the walk into town.
The apartment, the SPA and the hotel itself were very very very clean. The hygiene was at its best. The suite was very comfortable and cozy. One of the best things was that there was a laundry machine available in the suite and we had no problems with wet or smelly ski clothes. The rooms were enough heated and the laundry dried in one night. The views of Pirin and the golf course were spectacular.
Breakfast in St Georgie's hotel for Bulgaria was brilliant, better than anywhere else we had been in Bansko.
We didn't try dinner but maybe we should have. Old town seems to hit the mark better for dinners.
The spa was passable but needs some work in the steam room and showers, saunas were fine but no aroma in the aroma sauna which was disappointing.
The temperature of the hotel was perfect.
We really liked the Spa ! It’s very big and of very good quality. It’s a real spa with 2 saunas, turkish bath, swimming pool, massage etc After a good day of ski, it was really nice to relax at the spa. They also have a salt room. The apartment was spacious and they have games in the hotel for children, a pool, fire place with bar etc lots of amenities to have fun.
The SPA centre was one of the best i visited, perfectly clean, welcoming staff, variety of procedures. The food was good, the location is not very far from the city centre. We had a great time in the hotel. The ladies which clean the rooms were so polite and kind 🙂 you are the best. Great job to all the staff, we are very happy with the service
This hotel exceeded expectations with its prime location, good rooms, excelent breakfast and top-notch amenities. The attentive staff ensured a seamless experience, while the proximity to ski gondolas vibrant town life added to the overall appeal. A perfect blend of comfort and adventure, making it an excellent choice for any Bansko visit!
A very clean and quiet room with balcony and mountain view. The host is very kind and helpful. Good and filling breakfast, the hotel has an elevator and a ski room. And another good thing, they provide free shuttle to gondola! I forgot to mention that they have spa.
Nice hotel with wine bar/restaurant) it is inapplicable question about skiing by booking.com? Currently are some other activities in mountains as hiking and MTB bicycling etc. Deyan is a great host, was very easy and pleasant to communicate. Real Bulgarian hotelier)
Very close to Bansko lift ( you can walk to it with your equipment). tasty traditional Bulgarian food ( at fair price) . clean and warm . friendly staff. it is great to enjoy their spa after skiing/ snowboarding . nice Mountain View 👍
This time nothing at the hotel! Hypocritically polite staff when you pay the bill but totally absent when you need their help or a problem occurs. I guess they are simply understaffed but still pretend to be a 4 star resort.
great brekfast and diner, spa was nice, room was big, with nice mountain and gondola view, location was not too far from gondola, there was transport evry 15min to and from gondola, ski rent in the hotel, staff is frendly.
The food was perfect, the hotel staff were helpful and kind, the hotel was just what we expected, close to the ski area so we could get to the gondola within a few minutes walk. I definitely recommend it.
The room was very nice, the bathroom was clean and working perfectly (first hotel in Bulgaria we found with a good bathroom!). Nice view and little balcony. The use of the spa was great as well.
Hotel staff was extremely helpful and considerate. Close to the ski lift and best restaurants in Bansko. Excellent location. Very clean and well maintained spa facilities. Room was always warm.
Breakfast is very good , big variety of items and high quality.
Spa and pool facilities very good, clean and convenient.
Transfer to-from the ski area with the Hotel ski bus very helpful .
It was a great stay. Clean and well equipped hotel with proper spa and ski room. The staff was exquisite - especially Maya and Rumen.
