Good value hostel located above the town in a quite area. Room and shared bathroom were clean, you can do laundry on site for a fee, just ask at the reception.
If you are going down to town to eat dinner and plan on returning after dark, take a flashlight as the way to the guesthouse is not lit at all!!

It's a lovely location, surrounded by the mountains and there is a river just beneath (the river sound is so comfy for deep sleep at night). Lot's of greenery, beautiful scenery and there are horses and ponies and a dog Pele! The whole place has a unique vibe, it's so peaceful. The host is lovely, willing to help with everything, very kind and generous. I had a great time and I hope to come back again!

We stayed 1 night when travelling from the Julian Alps back to Trieste airport. Nice place to stay to break up the journey. Could stay longer and go out for day trips and hikes. It is high up in hills so nice views. From our accommodation we could see the Julian Alps in the distance. We travelled in April, it was very sunny and warm, no snow around this area only high up in the Alps.

We visited two world hermitage locations: the mine and the lace school. Both worth visiting. We went from Idrija to Skocjan caves. But we did not have time enough to walk in the pretty town and in the beautifull surroundings.

I live just 2 hours away from this city, part of UNESCO heritage sites, yet I had never visited it before: it was an amazing discovery! I travelled there by car and the voyage was somehow a great adventure, passing through mountains and narrow roads... but it was all worth it: Idrija is a charming city, clean and welcoming, surrounded by the green of the mountains and the endless blue of the sky. I booked a room in the city center, stayed one night and for both days I moved by feet: everything is close to the city center. Museums, lace shops (a great tradition here), restaurants, groceries shops, the remaining traces of the town's mining past (anthony's road into the mercury mine, the kamst with the huge water wheel, the miner's house, the smelting house with its new and interactive museum...)... plus, an overwhelming nature just out of the door! You can't miss the old Franja partisan hospital just 15 mins away, completely renewed after the flood of 2007.
I'll definitely be back again, granting me some time more to see everything and eat tons of tasty slikrofi! ;D

Idrija is an attractive old town, with a rich history, famous for mercury mining, lace-making, and special dumplings. The town museum is especially well-presented, in a handsome old, centrally-located "castle", with new displays and plenty of information in Slovenian and English. Excellent information about the mercury mining and lace-making. Also local history, especially 20th-c. wars.
Not far away: The intriguing gorge-hidden Partisan Hospital from WWII.
