We stayed in Port Mc Neill for 3 nights and used it as a base for seeing sights outside of the location. We caught a ferry across to Alert Bay and the journey was totally hassle free.
It was easy to leave the car at our accommodation and board as foot passengers.
We also visited Port Alice, Telegraph Cove and local areas.

Port McNeill is a quaint town on North Vancouver island.
Port McNeill is a quaint town on North Vancouver island. There are excellent roads with sidewalks, zero traffic jams, and sufficient restaurants and bars. Because it is located on a hillside, there are excellent ocean views everywhere, which is excellent.

Nice spot to spend a night or two, stroll the waterfront walkway, see the worlds largest Burl, visit the local museum with a great display of the towns history. Stop in at Mugz 2.0 for coffee and an amazing Cinnamon bun! It's all within walking distance. Try Devil's Bath Brewing and Gus's Pub for great drinks and good food and take a ferry to Alert Bay.

So many interesting things to do in Port McNeill. Fishing, exploring, rock hounding. Days trips to Port Alice, Telegraph Cove, Port Hardy. There is a food truck down by the water called Lata's Kitchen. Absolutely the best fish and chips I have ever had.

It is a quiet little town with a nice harbour to take a stroll. While walking at the harbour it was my first time to really see a bald eagle so close, it didn’t flew away while I was taking pictures of it. Food at Gus’ Pub was excellent, I’m glad there is a good place to eat at a small town. They also have a mall with a grocery store, Subwsy, Chinese restaurant and quite everything you might need while on a trip that you can’t live without. The long drive was beautiful too, the highway is scenic. The town is clean and so quiet and peaceful.

Port Mc Neill is a good location from which to explore Port Hardy, Telegraph Creek, Little Huson Caves Regional Park, Alert Bay and Sointula. It is a samll town, hence no traffic jams or line ups for anthing😊. One must be prepared for rain on the North Island andI did manage to buy a good raincoat.
The Dalewood Hotel restaurant has a large selection of most delicious foods on offer and they are strict about enforcing the covid protocols which is reassuring in this time of pandemic.
Basic hotel. We stayed during Covid. Comfortable...but stark.. no pictures on the bright white walls. There is no access to Netflix through their TV...that was a big bummer because their TV only had very basic cable. Both my sister and I like to fall asleep to nature shows on Discovery/Netflix and we had trouble getting to sleep due to lack of access to Netflix. On the good side the hotel is well located around the corner from the marina... with a coffee shop on the way..seriously it was a 2 minute walk to the marina. Very nice.
Staying at the cabin was the best part of visiting Port McNeill. It was clean, roomy, comfortable... had a lovely ocean view; tucked away from the main city. We felt very fortunate to have found this place! We met Lisa upon arrival. She gave us a few brochures on what to do in the area. Which led us to exploring the Huson Caves on our return home. Thanks Lisa!
The location for us was excellent since it was just a two minute walk to the local ferry to Alert Bay so we didn't need a car for our Alert Bay visit. We had a microwave and refrigerator in the room which helped with easy breakfast prep. The hotel was also close to an excellent brewery & pub where we enjoyed dinner for two nights.
Short distance from Port McNeill. Quiet location. We were there for 4 days to explore the Northern part of Vancouver Island and this was an ideal situation. We liked the fact that the cabins were spread out over the acreage. The amenities were good and the cabin was nicely furnished. The views were spectacular.
Squeaky clean, freshly painted, and comfortable bed. Wonderfully welcoming and informative staff, about places to see in the area. Nice size fridge. Microwave.
Handy location near the ferry and downtown.
THe food and service in the attached restaurant were great for us travellers.
not much; facilities listed were not provided due to “covid 19” staff reductions - restaurant not open, room rather dismal, general impression was it is far beyond recovery and the whole structure should be completely demolished with a new hotel built to contemporary standards.
I was impressed with how clean it was. I would have no trouble recommending the Humpback Inn to friends. It was exactly what we needed for our mini vacation to the northern island. A great place to use as a home base as we explored Port McNeill and Malcolm Island.
The staff were amazing and the rooms were so comfortable. The value for money was amazing and we loved it so much that we ended up staying an extra night. Out of the 4 hotels we stayed at on our vacation this was our favorite and it was 1/3 the price of the rest.
The staff was great.
They were very friendly and helpful.
Whenever we had a question about where to go, and what type of food we were wanting, or info. on the ferries to the Islands nearby, they were super helpful.
The location was fantastic as you could stroll to the waterfront and restaurants from our hotel. The rooms were clean and newly renovated. Loved our trip and the small town! Worth the drive!
Nice modern rooms and bathrooms, comfortable bed, a nice fridge and microwave in the room, good sized bath tub, friendly staff, strong wife and right near the water and all amenities!
