Tanvald is a small city in Sudeten where its industrial past...
Tanvald is a small city in Sudeten where its industrial past is still very much felt. The city (connected directly to another city, Desna) has plenty of old glass and other industry factories from the thirtees, some of them non-functioning. In the neighbouring Desna the glass factories are however functional - there are several glass shops worth a visit. But Tanvald is namely a point of departure to the Jizerske mountains, very beautiful range with excellent facilities for cross-country skiing in the winter and biking in the summer.SimonaBelgium

Tanvald railway station is just across the street, perfect for hiking excursions towards Cesky raj and the mountains around. In fact, it is not necessary to bring your car, there are direct train connections from Prague and getting around by public transportation is quite efficient and inexpensive. Shops for self-catering can be found in walking distance. So, we used our car there just twice in more than one week.
