Staying here was simply fantastic...
Where to start: great service! Everyone was friendly and helpful and full of smiles, which made the stay fun as well as convenient.
Room was beautifully done. Everything in this hotel has a "rock n' roll" theme, and each room is done up a little differently "boutique style" according to a specific theme like Elvis, Marilyn, or Cruisin'. My room was all about American Rock n' Roll, and the bed, bathroom, lamps, decor, everything was setup according to this theme and really fun. Even the hallways and staircases were thematically designed and decorated. Beds etc. were also clean and comfortable, and rooms were quiet.
Restaurant in the hotel was 50s Diner like, setup like an original US service station (garage, gas, etc.), and had great food and service. Also local beer which was really excellent, for good prices. Breakfast at the hotel was also excellent quality with a great selection, and long hours as well (from 06:30).
Finally, the restaurant served as a live-music venue in the evenings, with both a small stage for local talent, and a large ballroom/stage for more popular bands. I stayed for a local show and had a really great time because of the top-notch sound, lighting and atmosphere. Even during the show, the drink service was super fast and super friendly!
Finally, transpo is easy even though the hotel is somewhat outside the center, as a single tram (#4) from the train station (Svinov) takes you right to the hotel. The stop is just meters away. And Tram #4 back in the morning goes to both the station, but also the main shopping mall in the center and main bus station for international bus lines (UAN).
What more can I say, the experience was fantastic and I look forward to staying here again!

The city is fun, but...I just spent to much time on the public transportation app. Here is what I learn that would have been most helpful for American travelers.
If all of your party has their own Visa Credit card with tap to pay feature, you are already going to have an easier time!!! It doesn't take any American Express. You have to tap to pay go on the DPO, Ostrava's public transportation. The bus police doesn't always check, but as a visitor this was persistent fear.
If you have a child, who will ride you all the time, or you have a person who doesn't have a Visa with a tap to pay feature. You must only get your bus card at the Ostrava main train station!!!! I went DPO kiosk near an Albert supermarket, as stated on the DPO website! It was not dispensing cards. The city decided to get rid of cards recently, except at the Ostrava Main Train Station!
Don't you bother to bring cash on the public transit. It doesn't take it.
Don't try to get the 3 day pay by the DPO App. The app is broken. I even uploaded an image of my kids' picture and passport, and the app still did not take any money, and did get me a pass. It take 2-3 days for them to approve the photo and passport and but the app was not letting me purchase the 3 day pass. I only know that they still had cards because I sent an email to DPO after my stay and they advised me to go to the Ostrava main train station next time. Every regular Ostrava person, I talked to said the cards are not available, but I guess they have them only in one place.

Ostrava is constantly changing for better.y first visit was back in min 1990s and it was a horrible, dirty, industrial place. Now it is green, mostly clean and fun. The former Vitkovice area refurbished, remade to an excellent art, event and historic place with that industrial background defo worth visit and other places as well.

To be honest,Ostrava was chosen as the last night of my holiday in Hungary as it was convenient for travelling to Krakow for my flight home the next day.(Yes, I know it's in the Czech Republic, but my holiday was in Hungary).
My interests are football and railways, and I knew Ostrava was an excellent destination for a railway enthusiast like myself.
As for the city itself, apart from the Forum complex, which was excellent, I didn't see anything to particularly attracr me, although it was dark most of the time, so no disrespect to the city in case I just missed its great attractions. However I am aware it is an industrial city.

Ostrava is growing up really fast!
Ostrava is growing up really fast! I have not been there for couple of years and I was surprised how many new cool places are there and how many different activities you can plan there. It is definitely worth a visit! Unfortunately the local airport still does not provide any flights except only one from London and Warsaw so if you fly, like we did, you have to go from Krakow, Katowice or Prague.

Ok, so you are looking at a 300000-strong city, which was a mining / smelter / ironworks city for well over a 100 years. This entire business was shut down in the 1990s. Any critical review has to take this into account. The heritage site of Dolni Vitkovice, Landek, Bolt Tower definitely worth a visit. Check it out! The rest of the city is a mix of communist era style places and relatively few older buildings - you can still spend a day walking around the centre, along the rivers etc. Sometimes you may feel you are going back in time 30-40 years. Climbing up nearby areas (slag heap / Halda Ema?) is also something you would rarely see - and consider the environmental effect that it may have. Beers are good, mexican restaurant too!
It is a lovely hotel near the city centre, the staff are very pleasant and friendly. The breakfast- exceptional, the scrambled eggs are just amazing and the coffee is delicious. The bed is super comfy, the sofas in the room too. The lovely receptionist let us keep our suitcases until our train departure which was really helpful and I would recommend this place to everyone when you visit Ostrava.
I already had the pleasure to stay twice in the wonderful “Ruby Blue Hotel”. The hotel is very beautiful and clean. The service was excellent. Especially the waitress that served the breakfast was very friendly and the receptionist Mr.Javurek was always very helpful when I needed something. If I ever plan to travel back to Ostrava I will for sure choose this hotel again.
Absolutelly stunning place!!! Hotel itself is big RETRO in US style, but in a good way of meaning! Every room decorated in different style, I stayed in Rock'n'roll, got a small bottle of their beer as welcome drink. Own brewery on site. Big choice for breakfast buffet. Definitelly come again when I am in Ostrava next time
Stunning studio with everything you can need, in calm neighbourhood but still very close the “down town”. Big bonus is the view, especially at night. A small convenience shop is located in the building’s ground floor. The host is extremely helpful. If we are to return to Ostrava, definitely will book this place again.
It was a really successful stay in Ostrava. The hosts were very friendly. Really good location in the city, close to public transportation stops. Room and bathroom very clean and spacious. Breakfast was really excellent, large menu selection, large portions.
A chateau now serving as a hotel. Period decorations and the feel of the old times. Including a very good restaurant that brews their own beer. The breakfast selection was not as big as in other bigger hotels, but the quality was way way better.
Perfect place of you want to see the old factory, the hotel is basically in it. Basic, but clean. The mattress could be better, bed was very hard, but not issue for me since I prefer it that way. It's a you get what you pay for kind of a deal.
The breakfast was good, the property it self is good in a good location. The room was pretty quiet instead of the location of the hotel in a very noisy street full of bars, pubs etc.
Very nice and quite spacious rooms. Very nice and spacious bathrooms inside rooms. Inside hotel there is a very good restaurant and good breakfast included in price which was good.
The hotel and the restaurant are very nice. Bedrooms are confortable, the staff is very welcoming.
The breakfast was very good and the decoration/environment was nice
At breakfast the coffee was real bean coffee - Delicious! (it's often not the case in other hotels)
Parking behind the hotel: very convenient.
Very amiable staff.
This was not the first time we stayed here, and the hotel and owners are still keeping the level of quality and comfort. Everything was great as usual. Thanks!
