Torquay is a lovely English seaside town, has lots of links to Agatha Christie and some great local restaurants and bars. Lots of things to do only down side is at the moment the town is under going many road works in and out so getting about can be a bit slow by car/taxi. its also very hilly so walking can be difficult if in anyway unabled.

Been to Torquay regularly down the years, but we missed last year due to other commitments. Couldn't believe the change. What has happened to the town? It is a dishevelled, shabby place. Now full of beggars, roadworks, and boarded up shops. Thoroughly depressing and I'm so sad to say that I will not be returning. It is a ghost of what it once was, the jewel in Torbay. Couldn't wait to leave..

Pleasant seaside situation, somewhat run down town centre, plenty of restaurants, very hilly, parking is a nightmare and at the moment there is reconstruction going on in the middle of town. It has a charm of a sort and some nice walks if fit. There is a reasonably good bus service to take you to other local towns - Dawlish, Teignmouth, etc - and there are quite a few beaches although as we visited in April and had a planned reason to stay we didn't visit any. Visitors need to choose their hotel carefully - we saw some examples of what might politely be called faded buildings.

Selection of museums to check out at a small cost. There is a lot to see if you have time. The Agatha Christie Mile. Torquay happens to be the birth place of this Legend . Unfortunately our stay was short as this would be definitely on our agenda to do.

Torquay is a typical seaside resort & has something for all ages and it's easy to get around by car, bus or on foot. Bygones museum at St. Marychurch is well worth a visit & Cockington Village has to be seen, especially on a warm sunny day.

Torquay is very run down with a lot of homeless people.
Torquay is very run down with a lot of homeless people. Bad roads, poor surfaces and many potholese. Very expensive parking. Parking at 6.30pm to 7,15pm cost £5. Excessive for the town centre when all the shops are closed and only parking for 45 minutes. I live in a very expensive area of SW London where parking is a fraction of that price.
Cute little b&b, stayed for 1 night as were meeting a friend for drinks nearby. Good location, 10 minutes walk into town (longer on way back as up hill!) Comfortable bed, spacious room, friendly owner. Breakfast was nice - choice of cooked breakfast/ other items from a menu, then a selection of tea coffee etc also. Parking permit given to be able to park out the front of the hotel for the duration of our stay.
Would recommend for anyone wanting a cute little room in Torquay.
The hotel is so beautiful and located in a lovely part of torquay with easy access to restaurants and the marina. The spa is immaculate and facilities were top notch. When we arrived we were greeted by a duty manager named Leo and it was honestly the best welcome after a long drive. I arranged a bottle of fizz for our room to celebrate a birthday and Leo had it all arranged nicely in the room just before we arrived. Big kudos to him for his impeccable customer service.
Hotel was very nice, room was lovely and clea with every thing we needed and proper coffee not cheap stuff, the hotel always smelt lovely when we came in like fresh fabric softener, good location took us about 20 mins for nice stroll to torquay (but I do have bad hip) but is on direct bus route, also if you get a day rider cost £5 to travel all day to as many different places as you want, lovely pub the Kent couple minutes away
I needed a last minute hotel room for a night out in Torquay. This hotel was over £100 per night cheaper than the next cheapest option. It is definitely "no frills", but was clean and the bed was very comfy, and it didn't matter that I came back to the room in the wee early hours. It may not be the most aesthetically pleasing hotel but it certainly did the job and I'm grateful to have found somewhere so reasonable.
We liked everything about this gem in Torquay.
The hotel was very clean which is a big thing for me. Our suite was amazing with everything you could need. The bed was comfy, all decorated really tastefully. The staff were fab, very friendly, polite and kind. Breakfast was so good!!
The pool looked great, and there was a bar too.
In walking distance of the Town.
Thanks so much we will be back!
terrible - i was moved to this hotel but did not stay there as it did not meet my requirements - I contacted the hotel before my stay and told them it was not suitable. They confirmed a refund of my payment would be made however they are now telling me they will not issue a refund - you can't speak to anybody on a local basis - and they fob you off - absolutely do not care about their customers
Fantastic apartment with a brilliant sea view. Very well equipped with everything we needed. We ate in the restaurant at the hotel next door (same building) and the food was superb. Enjoyed the use of the gym and pools and very short walk to meadfoot bay and just a short walk into Torquay.
The hotel staff were welcoming and attentive, ensuring our stay was comfortable and memorable. I would highly recommend The Grand Hotel to anyone looking for a touch of luxury during their visit to Torquay. We spent plenty of time in Town with the hotel's location being really convenient.
Didn’t actually stay at the Abbey Sands as it was being refurbished. However transferred to the Grand a sister hotel which we were really pleased with. Staff were lovely, bar and lounge area had a wonderful view of Torquay, great place to sit to see the lights and the sun go down.
Liz and Paul were lovely host. They were friendly and offered lots of information about what Torquay had to offer so we could get the best out of our stay.
The room was clean and spacious. The hotel was within close proximity to the beach and town centre.
Breakfast was very good with a great variety of choices. The grounds were very pretty and the hotel was very quiet! Staff was super friendly and it was pretty nice that it is an adults only hotel. We would stay here again.
The hotel is beautiful the breakfasts were first class the rooms are fantastic and Joe and Lilly’s were fantastic the best hotel in Torquay
I would highly recommend to anyone
Hotel is in a great location right on the beach front in the centre of Torquay which is fantastic! The bed was super comfy and our room was relatively spacious.
