Stamford is a beautiful Georgian market town with lots of things to do and places to visit nearby. Shopping is very enjoyable as there are plenty of independent shops as well as the usual clothing chains. The Friday open air market was excellent and there were lots of bargains to be had. The choice of restaurants and cafes was very good. We can recommend Amore for its Italian cuisine and Kancchi for Indian/ Nepalese food, but would advise that you book in advance if possible.

I love old character buildings and this certainly is a lovely old character building. The location is good with most amenities in Stamford within a ten to fifteen minute walk. On site parking is a bonus. Would I stay again ? Yes, very much so, whilst there were a couple of little niggles overall I enjoyed the experience.

Easy to get around hills are gentle and manageable for those with limited walking. The Hong Kong Chinese restaurant is very good, but needs to be booked as tables go quickly. Street market on Fridays and a lots of boutique shops. The St Martins Antique centre offers a extensive range of interesting collectables. Premium Taxis are very reasonable £3.00 from the High Street back to the William Cecil Hotel.

Stamford is a beautiful town with georgian stone buildings and the whole town built in the same stone. The town is lively with lots of bars, cafes and restaurants as well as lots of local shops. The river meadows are very pretty. Close by we visited Barnsdale Gardens and Rutland water.

Stamford a picturesque market town in the south western...

Stamford a picturesque market town in the south western district of Lincolnshire accommodating 17th and 18th century stone buildings creating a quaint charming characterful location amongst half-timbered Elizabethan housing and 5 medieval parish churches. The Romans built Erasmine Street across what is now Burghley Park Estate and forded to the River Welland west of Stamford also built a town north of Great Casterton on the River Gwash. In 61 AD Boudica of the Iceni followed the Roman Legion Legio IX Hispana across the river. The Anglo-Saxon later chose Stamford as the main town and appeared in the Doomsday Book 1086 as Stanford. As the Great North Road passed through Stamford which became a halting town for travellers, Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth, James I and Charles I all passed through making a post station for the Postal Service during Elizabeth I reign. In 1663 an Act of Parliament passed and setup turnpikes creating a significant difference to wealth and prosperity of Stamford. Stamford is a great location to stay being a beautiful town to explore and enjoy accommodating an abundance of pubs, cafes and restaurants with an eclectic mix of boutiques and shops to browse. Places to visit: 15 Century William Browne Hospital and medieval Alms-house St. Mary's Church which has a crooked spire Burghley House, built by Queen Elizabeth I's chief advisor on 810 acres Grounds Capability Brown Landscaped the estate which is still home to the same family. Walks - well worthwhile in the Barnack Hills and Holes National Nature Reserve equally Cycle round Rutland Water

Stamford is amazing, and this cottage was perfectly set so it was in the middle of town, but on a side quiet street. Claire supplies all these little things to make your stay better and the little things in many ways are the big things. She provided snacks, food, drinks, top quality shampoo, conditioner, skin care, anti bacterial, and even a full sized bar of soap. Very comfortable, really clean, all the modern conveniences, and wonderfully designed and decorated.

The hotel is old, so there are wonky floors and the sash windows might stick, but the is all part of the luxurious charm of the George. Staff can't do enough for you, breakfast was amazing. Stamford is a great getaway for a meal out, some bars, walks along the river and some cafes and coffee shops...we will be back as soon as we can!

Wells House is nicely situated in Stamford, only a few minutes walk from the High Street & about 15 mins drive to Rutlsnd Water. It's a beautiful cottage, with great character and a lovely log burner. The cosy and well equipped kitchen. There were nice little touches like flavoured teas, coffee and products in the bathroom.

The hotel was 100% but it is misleading to say it is in Stamford High Street when it is in the village of Duddington, some 5 miles away. Very naughty. In the event the excellence of the hotel and the beauty of Duddington won us over but we did not get to experience Stamford, as we had hoped.

Quaint little B&B, at the end of a cul-de-sac in a lovely town. Room was clean, cosy & comfortable. Within a short drive of dinner options in Stamford. Continental breakfast supplies were provided for self-catering. Car had its own parking space right outside front door. Later checkout.

The house is lovely. Room was sparkling clean, spacious, bed was very comfortable, bathroom was spotless. Katie is really nice and she offered a delicious breakfast. Location was incredibly convenient, 2min away (if that) from the station, and a short walk to Stamford's city centre.
