A departure point for Isle of Wight ferries and grand cruise liners including the Queen Mary 2, Southampton is understandably centered around its port. But even if you’re passing through, the city has more than enough to make you want to stay awhile. The Hythe Ferry from the port passes Netley, site of a ruined abbey, and ends at Hythe Pier, home to the world’s oldest pier train.
There is much older history in the city center where the 15th-century city walls are amongs the most complete in England. Also remaining is the medieval Bargate gatehouse.
Just behind is the Bargate Shopping Center, while main street stores in the city center and West Quay are other Southampton shopping choices. As for entertainment, the city has great theaters, and Oxford Street has the best bars and restaurants. All are easily reached from the apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Southampton available on Booking.com.
There is also a surprising amount of green space in the city and its central parks is a historic site. Slightly further out is Southampton Common, whose Urban Wildlife Centre is worth a visit.
If you’re flying out of Southampton Airport, don’t leave without having visited the Maritime Museum or Archaeology Museum, both detailing the history of this long-established city.

The town centre has loads of shops and a large indoor shopping centre. There are several parks and lots of green space available. There was a huge choice of cafes, restaurants and pubs for all price brackets. We went to the 1865 club which holds lots of musical events. We were a bit concerned doing the 30 minute walk through the parks when the event finnished, however we saw at least 3 separate groups of police walking around the town and parks so felt very safe.

We had a really good stay with several nice meals, Found the people very pleasant and helpful. Really good shopping centres. Town was not too big and by the sea with several parks. There was something for all ages. Had all the major entertainments like cinema and ten pin bowling. Lovely museum and art gallery - well worth a visit.

Southampton is a little under-rated as an historic town.
Southampton is a little under-rated as an historic town. The walls are virtually complete on one side, there is one of England's best town gates and there are several old buildings to visit. The Art Gallery is just about the best south of London and the Sea City Museum is well worth a visit- especially for the Titanic story.

Southampton is a lovely city with a bustling town centre.
Southampton is a lovely city with a bustling town centre. It's famous for being the port from where the Titanic set off. I really like West Quay as a shopping mall - there's a lot of good places to eat at. I also like the entire stretch of High Street, there are weekly markets and also some pop ups stalls sometimes. The art gallery and library are free to enter, and you can also enjoy SeaCity Museum for a small fee. It's a wonderful city to walk in and just chill, but it's not as jam packed as London. However, from Southampton you can head to Winchester, the Isle of Wight, Brighton, Bournemouth, Beaulieu and more! There's also Paulton's Park which is home to Peppa Pig World. The buses are usually very efficient, and you have Uber or taxi services everywhere. All in all it's a great place to visit.

Southampton is like most cities in the UK.
Southampton is like most cities in the UK. Large shopping centre with various high street options and eateries. It has a leisure centre for swimming, plenty of gyms and large green spaces / parks to walk and talk in. It has strong ties to the Titanic story, as the ship left from one of the docks there. The museum is worth a visit. The Mayflower theatre has great shows on regularly.
If possible I want refund as this was a special trip from London to Southampton but the hotel rooms was not clean, there was hairs all over the beds and on carpets.
We couldn't use the swimming pools as it was always full had to stay in room most of the time as there.was nothing else to do with children. Once we managed to get on to the pool but there was used nappies and dirty towels on floor couldn't stay there long
The breakfast was superb - apart form the re-hydrated Scrambled egg. Everything was beautifully presented and the food area was spotlessly clean. Great selection of tasty foods. Something for everyone.
The lighting in the room / bathroom was lovely.
The communal social areas were fabulous.
pillows were super comfy
Plenty of sockets and charging spaces around the hotel.
Nice touch with the welcome drink.
The hotel is very impressive, set in the heart of the docklands area of Southampton. The staff were excellent and so friendly. Nothing was a problem to them. I had dinner with colleagues in the more casual dining area on the 6th floor beside the bar. The food was good, and the bar was very cosy with a chilled vibe. They had a great selection of spirits, an extensive drinks menu, and a lovely cocktail list.
We wanted a cheap one-night stopover to visit the Southampton Boat Show. This hotel was better than we expected and excellent value for money, even after paying extra for on-site parking. The room had everything we needed, without frills, including perhaps the best shower we've ever used! The cooked breakfast at the Ibis 3-star hotel next door was also very good and excellent value.
Fantastic location ; easy to walk into Southampton to the shops and theatre . Despite being on busy road , quiet and rooms at back of the hotel have a great view over the old walls . The staff were so warm , welcome and friendly , the food was fantastic and the rooms were spacious , clean and comfortable. We will definitely be back .
The staff were all kind and understanding, especially Andrea who made sure we were comfortable and welcomed. The room has a nice desk and very comfortable chair making it ideal as a working station. The location is also excellent. The hotel is very close to the center and restaurants and the park makes for an enjoyable walk.
What a fabulous hotel, central to all amenities, parking available at a small cost. Room really clean and modernly furnished, lovely bathroom too, although water wasn't very hot in the morning, but bearable. Didn't eat/drink hotel, so cannot comment on that. Would definitely book again if in Southampton again . Thank you
Them to like what is the price and location, my partner works for a cruise line and was joining a ship in Southampton the following day. To save the early drive we went the night before and stayed over, the location of the hotel is about 45 seconds walk to the cruise terminal and for £40 a night you can't really argue...
The hotel was situated in a good location and we were able to walk to restaurants, shopping and even a launderette. The host was very helpful in assisting us with amenities and places to go. The room was large, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Will definitely stay again when we return to Southampton.
We stayed at this hotel for only one night but I will definitely be making it one of my favourite place's to stay when near Southampton the food/staff atmosphere cleanliness everything about this hotel was excellent and the young girl who helped me when I arrived was so helpful and polite 5☆☆☆☆☆
The food - breakfasts were always excellent and I had an absolutely incredible makhani curry! The bed was really comfortable, and the staff were all excellent. Fantastic value for money. Great location for West Quay, cruise ships or just a general visit to Southampton.
Amazing hotel with a great concept. Large room with excellent facilities. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Great location for the port and cruise ship holidays, walking distance to all terminals.
Set in the old town of Southampton, with lots of great restaurants.
it's and old hotel, but very well kept, it walking distance from anywhere in the town, it's a good choice for budget and location. some hotels might charge more for the facilities it offers, so this one beats value/price.
The rooms in this historic hotel had all the modern conveniences while keeping the Old World charm. The breakfast was great. We had fun in the evening in the hotel's bar with the very engaging staff.
Location was close to an event. Options for food in the surounding area were decent, nothing to do with the hotel though. Booking.com handled our refund quickly.
