FAQs about hotels in Southampton

Historic Port of Walls

A departure point for Isle of Wight ferries and grand cruise liners including the Queen Mary 2, Southampton is understandably centered around its port. But even if you’re passing through, the city has more than enough to make you want to stay awhile. The Hythe Ferry from the port passes Netley, site of a ruined abbey, and ends at Hythe Pier, home to the world’s oldest pier train.

There is much older history in the city center where the 15th-century city walls are amongs the most complete in England. Also remaining is the medieval Bargate gatehouse.

Just behind is the Bargate Shopping Center, while main street stores in the city center and West Quay are other Southampton shopping choices. As for entertainment, the city has great theaters, and Oxford Street has the best bars and restaurants. All are easily reached from the apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Southampton available on Booking.com.

There is also a surprising amount of green space in the city and its central parks is a historic site. Slightly further out is Southampton Common, whose Urban Wildlife Centre is worth a visit.

If you’re flying out of Southampton Airport, don’t leave without having visited the Maritime Museum or Archaeology Museum, both detailing the history of this long-established city.

Southampton is a lovely city with a bustling town centre.

Southampton is a lovely city with a bustling town centre. It's famous for being the port from where the Titanic set off. I really like West Quay as a shopping mall - there's a lot of good places to eat at. I also like the entire stretch of High Street, there are weekly markets and also some pop ups stalls sometimes. The art gallery and library are free to enter, and you can also enjoy SeaCity Museum for a small fee. It's a wonderful city to walk in and just chill, but it's not as jam packed as London. However, from Southampton you can head to Winchester, the Isle of Wight, Brighton, Bournemouth, Beaulieu and more! There's also Paulton's Park which is home to Peppa Pig World. The buses are usually very efficient, and you have Uber or taxi services everywhere. All in all it's a great place to visit.

Southampton is like most cities in the UK.

Southampton is like most cities in the UK. Large shopping centre with various high street options and eateries. It has a leisure centre for swimming, plenty of gyms and large green spaces / parks to walk and talk in. It has strong ties to the Titanic story, as the ship left from one of the docks there. The museum is worth a visit. The Mayflower theatre has great shows on regularly.

Would have been nice to have stayed but I wasn't permitted to change my booking. I booked for one night for an early hospital appointment that was changed at the last minute. Despite there being vacancies for my changed date the hotel would not allow me to change my original booking so I lost my payment.

Lovely historic port city, great shopping facilities and choose of restaurants in and around the city centre. Parking in multi-storey was best as outside parking restrictions mean it can be congested. Great pedestrian shopping areas too. Coastal parks and green spaces make the areas for recreation great to explore. Port for departing cruises and being a university city means a diverse young population. Would recommend over nearby Portsmouth any day.

The hotel is in a very good position for visiting the theatre in Southampton, whilst being in a very quiet and secluded place. The room was a good size, with a bath rather than just a shower. The breakfast offering, again went above and beyond, with an exceptional choice, and very good quality. The gentleman overseeing the breakfast room was delightful. At the price, this hotel would be very hard to beat.

We wanted a cheap one-night stopover to visit the Southampton Boat Show. This hotel was better than we expected and excellent value for money, even after paying extra for on-site parking. The room had everything we needed, without frills, including perhaps the best shower we've ever used! The cooked breakfast at the Ibis 3-star hotel next door was also very good and excellent value.

It was an immaculately clean, well furnished, modern two bed, two bathroom apartment(one room ensuite) with WiFi. It was also in an excellent location with two shops and a pub close by, the latter, 'The Winston' doing traditional bar snacks and meals. Southampton City centre and the cruise terminals were approximately 0.5 miles from the apartment. I would definitely stay here again!

The Moxy is fresh, modern, funky, the main lobby/bar and rooms are very clean and well appointed and a great location for West Quay, food outlets, bars and the sea front. We have stayed in both the Moxy & Premier Inn just next door prior to cruising, the Premier Inn is a good hotel & brand, but i am sorry to say the one at West Quay needs a makeover as its looking slightly tired.

Thought the location of the hotel was very convenient near to the port and near to the old historical town area of Southampton. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. We had breakfast in the hotel which wasn't included in the price, which I thought was unfair. The quality of the food though was very good. The reception staff were very friendly.

The location was an easy walk from the train and a minute to the downtown. The hotel was much nicer than I anticipated for what seemed like a bargain price. I loved the little touches of tea and coffee service set up in our room with cookies. We ate at the restaurant and the food was delicious.
