Roundthorn Country House & Luxury Apartments, hotel in Penrith

The Roundthorn Country House and luxury self-catering Mews Apartments are set in landscaped gardens, with panoramic views of the Eden Valley and Lakeland Fells.

First class hotel. Friendly helpful staff, beautiful, comfortable room and excellent food. We were driving south from Scotland to Liverpool to join a cruise ship, unfortunately due to bad weather conditions our itinerary was changed and we elected not to sail. I rang the hotel on our way back north and were delighted that they were able to give us the same room. Would definitely stay at Roundthorn again.

Free parking and a bar on site were positives as was the central location. The advert said that it was a larger than average room but including the bathroom it was no more than 13ft by 8 ft. There was no table or chairs so not a pleasant area to spend any time. The bottom of the outside of the shower had ingrained dirt.

Penrith town very nice and quaint!

Penrith town very nice and quaint! The locals were lovely - in the bars, hotel and on the streets. We visited Coniston lake and enjoyed it. Very pretty. nice cafe and food. boat trip very good. Went to see Arthur's Round Table! Delightful. Nice hotel for coffee opposite.

    Penrith is a lovely town.

Penrith is a lovely town. It has all the facilities you need such as supermarkets, bars and restaurants. I was impressed with the cleanliness too. It is an ideal place to stay in to explore The Lakes as well as castles nearby.

Nice buildings with lots of character.

Nice buildings with lots of character. No huge shops but loads of smaller varied places. The town was alive and generally well kept. Good range of eating places and some really good pubs. The town is not huge, so once there everything is easy to walk. It's not particularly hilly, though heading for the castle is uphill.

Penrith is a great little town close to Ullswater , plenty of restaurants and independent shops. The house itself is close to town centre and pay parking. Free street parking is available a short distance ( uphill) away.it is a lovely house for a family , well equipped and clean - books and games for adults and children. We are highly likely to stay again.

I arrived too late for food at 21:00 as the Foundry 34 stops serving at 20:30, and the menu looked good. This meant I had to go to the local curry house as the only thing open. The hotel is very clean and the rooms well decorated, and very comfortable. All excellent. Breakfast was good - well cooked and excellent coffee. All the staff were helpful & friendly - from providing me with the parking permit needed for an hour in the morning, to try and suggest somewhere to eat the evening of arrival.

Welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. Comfortable spacious room with seats as well as beds (unlike YHA). Decent sprung mattresses without rubbery covers (again unlike YHA). Clean well-designed kitchen. Not far from town centre yet in a quiet area. Dry room and bike storage (even though I didn't need these on this occasion). Nice fluffy towels available to hire very cheaply if you don't have your own.

Really great B&B. Friendly welcome, lovely room, comfy bed, and terrific full English Breakfast.. free WiFi (that worked well) lots of sockets, lovely shower and well located in the town centre for pubs and restaurants. This was a last minute panic booking, as my usual hotel was fully booked and I think I got a lower price than usual But would love to stay again next time I'm in Penrith even at full price.

This cosy and clean room in a beautiful house was ideal for us to use as a base to visit the Lake District and the surrounding areas. Penrith town centre is within walking distance from the property and there was space to park our car. Christel was an amazing host putting on wonderful breakfasts for us and we felt that we wished we could have stayed longer. We would definitely stay here again.

It's a tastefully decorated and furnished place, full of character and in a pretty village. A quiet, leafy spot with pretty gardens front and back. Delightful patio out the back if the weather was kind, super conservatory at the front for wet days and cooler evenings. Very well equipped - there was no occasion where we thought "is there a ....?" and there wasn't one! We'd love to stay again.

Good room very quiet given a busy Friday night in the hotel bar and dining. Staff very polite and had a great Cumberland breakfast. Centrally located in Penrith . I was visiting Ullswater on the following day which is less than 5 miles journey which was good.Safe parking to rear of hotel although took some finding around one way town centre system. Excellent stay.

Very happy with our brief stay at Rebel's Hide. Ideally located (for our visit) just outside Penrith in a quiet residential area. It surpassed our expectations and we were very happy with our stay. Good communication and instruction from the hosts. The best recommendation I can give is that we would be happy to stay there again. Many thanks 🙂

Abbey House is an outstanding place to stay. Vickie was so welcoming and had thought of everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible even to having a chocolate and fluffy robes. It felt very luxurious. The room and bathroom was spacious with a huge comfy bed. The breakfast was delicious. I can't praise our stay enough.

Its a lovely large cottage with a garage where we could store our bikes. Beautiful quiet location just set back from quiet country lanes about 30 mins from Penrith. On the main farm theres a kitchen that serves beers and fantastic pizzas in the evening. The owners were hospitality itself and v happy to recommend
