Folkestone has reasonable shopping facilities for a small town. It is close to some very beautiful areas of Kent, like the Elham Valley. It has excellent train service on the high speed trains from London Canterbury is about 45 minutes drive away and well worth a visit. If you enjoy walking in scenic countryside Folkestone is surrounded by it.
The town is hilly and getting down to the harbour means negotiating a fairly steep gradient, so might be less enjoyable or more challenging for people with mobility problems. There is a bus service.
There are restaurants, pubs, places to eat out but if you're on a budget there is an Asda, a Sainbury and a Lidl store in the town centre where you can buy food. There is a good bus service to Dover and to Canterbury.

Folkestone is amazing and always has a lot going on with live music and entertainment. The Christmas market and good yard facilities on the harbour arm are great. Pubs on the Stade are good. The Old High Street very quaint and lots of places to eat.
My stay at the Clifton hotel Folkestone was superb from start to finish, very nice and helpful staff great room with views of the sea. clean well appointed room and very quite too. I had a great nights sleep and a superb breakfast with lots of options
to choose from. The hotels location was excellent being right on the seafront and Parking available at a minimal charge.
I can say without question I shall try and stay here again
The Gentleman on Reception called Mark was very helpful & polite. I would say Mark is the nicest person I've met on a Reception desk. We paid extra to upgrade our room, and we was extremely happy with our upgrade.
The hotel is very lovely and clean, with great staff.
I've been coming to Folkestone for years, and I didn't even know this hotel existed.
I will definitely be coming back to stay at this hotel.
I booked a single basic room but hotel upgraded me to a premier room overlooking the harbour.
Amazing view of sunrise over the white cliffs of Dover.
The cabaret in the bar area was excellent very good George Micheal tribute singer and comedian!
Would recommend asking for room with a view of Folkestone harbour.
Love the atmosphere. Rooms were clean and the team was helpful. Dinner was very nice (it was in a different room because our dog was not allowed in the restaurant but it was well arranged). Hotel is located just next to the beach so a great area for a walk. Everything was great.
It was in a great area. The ocean was across the street from hotel. They had street vendors close by the hotel. They did have buffet there. Was ok, but they made me fish and chips, and it was very good. We missed breakfast in dining room and was able to order food at the bar
I have been a hotelier for 35 years ideal, location for an event at the folkestone sports centre tho visitors are mainly overnight stayers usiing the channel tunnel.ideal place to rest before travelling on.A quiet and peaceful area.great value and superb breakfast.
Thank you, I liked the hotel, the location eg within minutes walking distance of Folkstone Cetral train station, and the room comfort levels and private facilities; fantastic for a solo traveller, and a part time student as I had some space to read and study.
Location is good. Sandgate is very nice and on a sunny day beach walks are great. some good cafes and restaurants all within walking distance. Folkestone and Hythe are short drives away too. The flat, once inside, is cosy and pretty well equipped.
Zoe was a wonderful host. She accommodated our daughter at the last minute, was very helpful, and the. property was gorgeous. We would totally stay there if ever we went back to Folkestone. We just wish we had had more time there. Thank you Zoe.
The position of the hotel relative to Folkestone - easy to get anywhere to there. Right on the sea front. The Receptionist on Saturday and Sunday was really great, she's lovely. The bed was comfortable.
Breakfast was better than expected.
Room - this was a dog friendly room and it was better than any other hotels we stayed in in France ie IBIS they were rubbish
