Dorchester has the feel of a small town with many delightful...
Dorchester has the feel of a small town with many delightful old buildings, cafes, pubs and restaurants, all seemingly selling good food. There are many museums in and around the town centre, often easy to get to on foot. There is Roman history here, medieval too, a long military heritage and of course the dinosaurs of the famous Jurassic coast. Too many things to do in just one weekend, and many more attractions only a short car-drive away. The shops? - Well we never had time to explore them!

The Dorchester Museum is excellent.
The Dorchester Museum is excellent. We called in just to find out about the Iron Age fort and ended up learning so much more. Everything is very clearly displayed and explained in enough detail, but not too much. There are some remarkable Roman mosaics, a good overview of a fascinating history of the area, and an interesting section about Thomas Hardy. We were there in cold, wet February weather, so outdoor activities didn’t suit the weather. At different times of the year the outdoor activities in the area have great promise.

We only went for my cousin wedding at the towns registry office, that was a very good experience. We had intended to look around the town on the following day but the weather was so foul we travelled back home.
The town for what we saw had some wonderful historical building, and we would have liked to explored more

Only visited for the afternoon and evening meal.
Only visited for the afternoon and evening meal. The Keep Museum is excellent with a great view from the top. Excellent Italian/Fish restaurant "Al Molo" (which was the main reason for visit). Would definitely visit again.

An important county town, oozing history, good restaurant options and fine shops. The Council provides helpful parking. The District Hospital was one of the best NHS performers I have experienced, thankyou. Don't miss the museum.
Without doubt this was the best room we have rented. An idyllic location, spotlessly clean with friendly and helpful hosts. We rented for four days and would not hesitate to return or recommend to anyone. Breakfast is tasty and plentiful, the room comfortable and well furnished and the wifi fast. Bear in mind that there is no bath but the shower is large and powerful. The village is extremely pretty too and Dorchester has some great restaurants and beautiful surroundings.
A lovely classic hotel run by a lovely elderly accommodating couple. The price of the room was high due to the relaxation of the Covid restrictions (Staycation period) and the scarcity of accommodation which all contributed to the high prices not just at the Casterbridge but at all accommodation in Dorchester and the surrounding area (Weymouth). All that being said, I would use the hotel again if in the Dorchester area.
Fantastic place, central to many Dorset attractions and Dorchester itself. Superbly spacious rooms with shower and lovely toiletries, plenty of wardrobe space, comfy beds. Room has tea and coffee facilities with coffee machine.
Breakfast was fantastic with endless coffee and tea and a brilliantly cooked full English as well as cereals, juices and toast (with proper butter.)
This was easily the best hotel during our UK trip. The staff was lovely, the food was amazing ( tasty, big portions and fairly priced), the continental breakfast had many options, the rooms were nice and clean.
The position is perfect to visit the Jurassic coast both west and east, it's just 27 minutes from Lulworth cove and Durdle door, and 25 minutes from Waymouth.
Little gem at the heart of Dorchester! This marvellous old building got recently renovated and there is a nice hotel, pub/restaurant as well as a smoking room which can be booked for meetings/events. Got upgraded to a bigger room for free, staff very helpful and friendly. Room (and bathroom) was exceptionally large.
I love every thing in this hotel. The overall ambiance made you feel special. The hotel was well decorated. The room was amazing. It had a nice view. We enjoyed taking a picture at every corner of the hotel
Moreover, all the staffs were polite and friendly. Moreover, breakfast was superb!
Lovely pub in a picturesque Dorset village, very quiet and peaceful. Ideally placed for visiting Dorchester (Maiden castle), the Jurassic coast and Corfe castle. Very friendly pub staff and great food and beer. We were made to feel very welcome. A revisit is definitely on the cards
since the opening of this hotel, some six years ago, I'm always staying in this fantastic hotel when i'm in the area.
i'm coming into the Uk already for more than 15 years and for sure this is one of the best hotel regarding price/quality.
We loved the quirky style of the property and it’s size. As a family of 5, there was plenty of space, and all rooms were a decent size. Dorchester is a perfect spot for exploring the coast in Dorset too.
It felt like a home away from home.
Definitely the best place to stay if you're thinking of staying in Dorchester. Newly refurbished, very nice and attentive staff, modern and clean rooms. Great design throughout the hotel. Nice breakfast if you're staying a day or two.
Superb Breakfast that outshone many hotels. Home cooked with good ingredients that are not cheap. Bacon and sausages where lovely. Well looked after over the breakfast period. Good coffee to which is important to us.
The food and service is amazing. I think it is the best hotel for now where I have ever stoped before. Room is clean, complementary choco brownies with tea/coffee provided. Books and journals make you feel like home.
Our room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was sufficient to set us up for the day. The Inn is in a quiet hamlet outside Dorchester and as such is centrally situated for touring Dorset.
outstanding breakfast with fresh vegetables. check out the amazing garden in the back of the hotel. host was knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating.
