I stayed just for one night. It was raining and was very windy, so I didn't get to visit any of the outdoor places I wanted to, but the Carlton Lanes shopping centre was nice to visit and unlike in Leeds which is so busy there were no queues in December for Christmas shopping in the shops I wanted to buy from. Castleford has regular bus services to Leeds, at a fair price and it is also connected by train.
I would go again in better weather and visit Pontefract castle and Queen's Park.

I stay in Castleford at the Wheldale Hotel in order to visit with my family in Barwick in Elmet and cannot comment on Castleford attractions or facilities. It would seem to be well served with shops and petrol stations but I do not make use of the amenities in real terms.

It used to be a bustling and happy town, It used to be a mining and industrial area, but since the mining and industry left the area it has deteriorated, the outlying areas has some roman history, but Castleford is not really a tourist spot.

Great location - fantastic value for money, good food and plenty of parking. Nice bar, clean, comfortable rooms and public areas. Sounds from other rooms do carry though - so if you are a light sleeper be warned.

The motel was just right for an overnight stop.
The motel was just right for an overnight stop. The staff were very pleasant and the room was adequate and had everything I required. The bed could be upgraded as it is too soft.
Breakfast was a pleasant surprise.
The location of this apartment was good, within easy walking distance of the train station and shopping areas, which is just as well as you are advised not to drive here due to lack of parking facilities at the property and in the surrounding streets. Being at a crossroads, this apartment was quite noisy, particularly with "boy racers" revving engines and screeching off!
Furnishings in the apartment are good, but the addition of some comfy seating, ie an armchair, would be a welcome addition
The house is very comfy, homely and extremely clean. We got parked easily every day and the street was very quiet. We were visiting family near by so the location was great, however the house is close to Escape where there was lots of activities for kids and grown up kids. We went back again for another go on the VR games and go karting. Lots of lovely villages and walks near by. We ran out of time but will definitely rebook. Loved the Yorkshire artwork.
Unfortunately didn't end up staying due to changes, however communication with Andy was fantastic, he gave me advice on the local area, informed us of how to get into the property if he was not there, and was made aware that he was always on the end of the phone if there were any issues or problems. If looking to stay in Castleford/Leeds again I would look to book here again first.
The manager was exceptionally kind and helpful, going above and beyond what could reasonably be expected in adapting to some unexpected problems with my travel arrangements.
My room was warm, clean and well-appointed. The shared bathroom and toilet facilities were close by, clean, and well maintained. The hotel was exceptional value for money
The Wheldale Hotel was exactly what I needed. It was an excellent stopover on my route north for a wedding. The room was reasonably priced and excellent value for money. The breakfast was absolutely excellent. I enjoyed my stay and I would recommend it to anybody.
Good value, comfy bed, nice people. Close to Castleford train station and very easy to get a train into Leeds. we went up for the Leeds uni open day 20/30 away by train/ car and visited Sheffield Uni on the way back 50/60 mins by car/train.
A friendly welcome, I was in a single room and ideal for my trip, very clean. Good selection at breakfast. Although no food available on the evening they were happy for me to order in and eat in the bar area.
Great location for visiting friends and family in Castleford , communication with host superb,check-in was simple, , house was exceptionally clean & nicely furnished. Definitely would stay here again
Second time I've stayed and on both occasions its been great. The hosts are friendly, breakfast is more than adequate, and our room was comfy. I'd certainly recommend staying if you are in the area
Lovely rooms in a local pub. Very friendly staff and made to feel welcome. Better service than some fancy hotels. The pub is great and homely. Breakfast was great!
