Capital of Wales, Cardiff is a wonderfully green city steeped in national pride. At its heart is enormous Bute Park, divided by the River Taff and named after the marquis that once lived in Cardiff Castle overlooking it. In fact, this is just one of 5 castles within the surrounding area.
Over the road is Cathays Park, a beautiful square flanked by Edwardian architectural masterpieces including Cardiff City Hall and the excellent National Museum of Wales. Another must-see is St Fagan’s National History Museum, one of Britain’s top attractions.
From Victorian arcades to the fabulous St David’s Center, shopping in Cardiff is fantastic. And there’s no shortage of pubs and restaurants for a short rest or meal. Those by Cardiff Bay have particularly pleasant views.
Also by the bay are the futuristic National Assembly for Wales and the Wales Millennium Center. Another year 2,000 landmark is the Millennium Stadium, a state-of-the-art venue for international rugby and soccer matches, as well as concerts. Next door is Cardiff Arms Park, home to the city’s rugby union team, while Cardiff City FC’s new stadium is in the west.
Cardiff Airport is further west near Barry and Booking.com have an excellent range of hotels, B&Bs and apartments both near there and in the city center.
Great city break. Lots to do and plenty of entertainment and food outlets. Food at the hotel was excellent so didn't go too far from there this time.
Lots of local bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk. Castle and park areas only up the road too.

First time in Cardiff and it won’t be our last. It was absolutely beautiful with so much to do. There is a massive shopping centre and we also went to Barry Island which is only a 20 minute drive away. We loved Cardiff!

The hotel staff, taxi drivers, local shopkeepers and local people were all friendly and willing to share information about the area. The water bus and bay trips were well worth going on. The Norwegian church and other sights both in Mermaid Quay and Cardiff city and Castle were all worth visiting. We had a really good and interesting time.

I don't have anything good to say.
I don't have anything good to say. Bad experience, rude staff, they were offering a 9 am break fast and they were starting hoovering, cleaning and putting food away around us at 9.15.
They stole £50 from our card because 2 bottle of soap had broken. The self was unstable and they fell

We enjoyed our short stay in Cardiff and would probably have stayed another couple of nights. We had a great meal out at Ty Madeira, and enjoyed Cardiff Castle, although it is a slightly odd selection of different things to do. It is easy to get around Cardiff: we mainly walked but got taxis when the weather didn't allow that.
Hosts greeted us on site to hand over keys and explain the off street parking. All the room sizes in this apartment are surprising large. Most of the kitsch appliances felt like they were new and plenty of plates pots etc. Very quiet and a good location for Cardiff Bay. Also near Cardiff Bay Train station and a taxi rank if you need to get into Cardiff City centre. Good value for money.
Very friendly helpful staff. Clean and comfortable.
Mario on reception was extremely helpful. After having no luck with getting us a taxi to take us into Cardiff City centre he ran us to the nearest train station so we could get to the city from there. He went above and beyond to make sure we didn't miss the rugby! A real asset to the hotel.
It was a reasonably priced large room with free parking in a good location near Cardiff Bay.
There's a short walk to a bus which runs between Cardiff Bay and the city centre. We got a day ticket for less than a tenner for both of us which we used four times so good value and cheaper than parking in the city. A lot less hassle too.
Very friendly helpful staff. The room decor maybe a little dated but it was very clean and comfortable. We were booked into the spa at The Mercure just down the road and we were able to leave our car in The Tanes Hotel car park and walk to The Mercure, also not much further to walk to city centre.
This is an absolutely fantastic boutique hotel and one of the best we have ever stayed in. The attention was superb and the food was excellent. The staff were attentive and extrmely helpful. We will defnitely stay again when we visit Cardiff. A little gem in the heart of the city!
The location is great, there is very easy access to the city centre, in particular places of interest the museums, the castle and Bute Park too. There is a train nearby that runs straight to Cardiff Bay. A no fuss, dog friendly, clean centrally positioned hotel.
Great location. The hotel was about midway between Cardiff City centre and The Bay. Quiet area . Great room with a small kitchen area, which meant it was more like a home from home. Breakfast was included, which was a buffet with plenty of choice.
The location was convenient to the train station and to the city. About 30 minute walk to bay and 20 minute walk to castle. Breakfast was okay but facility is so run down that nothing seems clean. Staff was friendly.
Sandringham Hotel is in a brilliant location close to everything in the city centre. Close to principality stadium, close to Cardiff International arena, near shops, bars and the castle.
Clean room with pretty view. Superb location within Cardiff city centre. On Sunday there’s a riverside market right across the street with really cool range of local produce.
Nice hotel near Cardiff Central station and the city centre. The room was good, with the comfortable beds and daily cleaning. The hotel stuff was friendly and helpful.
