Fabulous chefs produced 7 course taster evening meal and wonderful again chef prepared breakfast, amazing flavours and absolutely coordinated and balanced tasty servings over a large number of locally sourced products. Service was friendly and knowledgeable and professional throughout our stay. We felt everything was made to happen very specially just for us, a wonderful experience and a culinary delight.

The town is easy to get around and has plenty of places to eat. Sadly the River Taw looks very polluted with brown foam floating down it, which gives the town a rather dilapidated feel.
Otherwise a pleasant [place to stay

Barnstaple is a great base for touring north Devon.
Barnstaple is a great base for touring north Devon. There are good link roads that take you through to north Cornwall and the whole of north Devon. Don’t like driving the bus service is excellent although when it’s busy there are slight delays just allow yourselves the time for this. Barnstaple is a lovely town with lots a shops and some are Independant. We are looking to move to the area to be nearer our daughter

This is a nice little west country town on the estuary of the Taw river, with easy access (by car) to surfing beaches of Croyde and Woolacombe bay, and to Exmoor for hiking.
It's easy to get around the town on foot. Bike rental is available for going farther afield.
There are some excellent restaurants, notably Tiffins (Indian).
There is an amusing museum with local information and artifacts .

Although not itself overly picturesque, it has excellent bus services to many places that are - Westward Ho, Ilfracombe, Bideford, Lynmouth and even Minehead! More should be made of these in publicity, don't assume everyone has a car.

I lead other cyclists on the Devon Coast to Coast cycle Trail , & Barnstaple is near the start or finish depending on whether you are going south or north. I normally go to the Hunters Lodge just south of Barnstaple they are excellent but they were full at the time.

Barnstaple is a charming town with a good range of architecture but particularly after dark the town is full of beggars, drunks, drug addicts giving the town a very unsafe and grubby feel. The Police and Council appear to have given up on improving the social environment and this probably impacts on the town’s tourist industry.
The staff at the Imperial were one of the best aspects of this hotel, they were all very attentive, friendly and polite and service was always prompt. The room was very comfortable with a pleasant en-suite, tea and coffee making facilities, toiletries etc. The decor was very restful and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was good, with an excellent choice of cereals, juice and cooked food but pricey without a bed and breakfast deal.
It wasn’t clear I was staying with Burt from the listing but not an issue as I was told to make myself at home, I was even offered Sunday lunch. It was at the top of my budget but amongst the cheapest rooms in Barnstaple within a 15 minute walk. The room was cosy, warm and nicely decorated with access to Sky TV. Mattress and bedding was very comfortable. Great kitchen and range saved me on meals out.
We were upgraded to a more spacious room, which was clean and well appointed, the bed was very good but a bit to soft. The staff in the hotel were friendly and efficient. Location is very handy for the town. The car parks are a bit tricky, especially with work taking place in one. I think this is to be expected for a town centre location. On the whole it is a lovely old grand hotel, with character.
It was a breath of fresh air from the national hotel chains I stay at, all the facilities that you need were there at half the price, so why pay more. The reason why I found your hotel was because the hotel I was going to stay at rang me at the last moment to say they had overbooked my room, I will not be staying with them again as your hotel has everything I need.
Was extremely surprised at the location and the hotel. Staff were great and the room was huge! Literally a 5 minute drive to Barnstaple and north Devon beaches 20 minutes in other direction. Breakfast was a little disappointing, especially for the price of the room but that could just be my personal preferences. Would recommend and would stay again.
Clean , modern room .
Complementary tea/coffee.. soap / shampoo.
Lovely hosts. And a bargain breakfast.
Great location for town centre / theater , just a couple of minutes walk away
Public Carpark behind with a parking app so easy to top up carparking if needed . Only £13 for 24hrs or free after 6pm until 8am
Over all Well worth the money .
The hotel is customer friendly. Friendly staff. Food. Pool. Good Atmosphere in hotel. Smart decor throughout.
Initiative my case was taken to my room when it was ready. Restaurant staff remembered I needed GF and oat milk. I needed a computer shop as laptop failed. Staff recommended a place in Barnstaple.
Room was cleaned.
Great location very close to Barnstaple. Lovely views. Very well equipped cottage. The hosts had thought of all the essential needs, including gin glasses. The welcome hamper was appreciated and the fudge was excellent. Highly recommended and would happily stay again.
Excellent service from the staff. It's so refreshing to go to a hotel theses days where everyone knows what they are doing. Great breakfast and good facilities. The hotel did everything that we asked for and we never felt like anything was too much trouble.
Breakfast was great.
Hosts were friendly interesting and helpful.
Able to walk around large estate which was quiet and interesting walk.
Animals were interesting.
It was convenient for where we wanted to go in Barnstaple
No 22 was a wonderful place to stay. Jane was so friendly and welcoming. The room and en-suite were absolutely beautiful! So much more boutique hotel than B & B. A totally pampering experience.
Beautiful location. Sent my daughter here for her birthday and she was so pleased with everything including the Partridge on the menu that she'd never tried before. Great staff, and service.
Everything exceptional. Fabulous room. Very good breakfast. Close to town centre and great location for all locations in North Devon. Would definitely recommend this hotel. A+
Excellent hotel within walking distance of the town centre. Could not fault staff, food, cleanliness and more than adequate parking. Would definitely go their again.
Cosy inside, thick carpet in bedrooms, large dining table to work at, close to Barnstaple. There was a problem with the bathroom light which was fixed quickly.
