We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The hosts are taking lots of efforts to please the guests. The stuff is very professional and attentive. It’s a perfect place for families, with easy access to the ski lift where there’s a lot to do for kids. We stayed for the new year night and the party organised by the hotel was a very high level. Thank you!

I love that our hotel was close to the gondolas and the walking trails. There is also paved roads from the train station to the hotel, which made it a comfortable walk with luggage.

We went in late summer and walked in a different part of the surrounding mountains every day. Good cable car access to or from higher areas but also options to walk to the mountains/lakes from Kandersteg. Local buses and trains are free with the area guest pass and there is 20% off cable car fares. Several restaurants to choose from for meals and coop etc to buy picnic. Beautiful village. Only 2 hour train journey from Basel. Kandersteg tourist office website has info on many local walks with interactive maps.

At the altitude of Kandersteg, wildflowers are at their peak in early to mid June.
The place is suitable for children (the Rodelbahn), the more accomplished climbers (the Via Ferrata), and everyone in between. It's a gateway to beautiful places for hikers of various abilities, e.g. the Gasterntal, the Allmenalp, the Gemmi Pass, the Oeschinnensee, the various alpine huts. Perhaps that's why the International Scouts Centre is situated in Kandersteg.
Everything within the village is within a 10-minute walk. Anything further can be reached by hourly bus service (free with guest card).

Stunning mountain scenery, fantastic walking via cable cars.
Stunning mountain scenery, fantastic walking via cable cars. We received free passes for the cable cars as part of a village-wide promotion for a 3 + night stay. Very good public swimming pool in the village - used every day due to hot weather.

Kandersteg is a clean and beautiful town near alpine hikes, ski areas with activities in summer, bicycling, and many other outdoor activities, all with spectacular scenery. We used Kandersteg as a place to rest with a day-hike between longer hikes in the SAC huts above tree-line, which require a lot more strenuous hiking to reach. The Oeschinensee is spectacular, and also fascinating from a geotechnical engineering perspective.

Beautiful little hamlet in the Alps with easy access by train. The views are spectacular and a cable car carries you up far above the city with spectacular views of the city and a beautiful glacier melt lake after a short hike. Most services are available in town including groceries, pharmacy, numerous restaurants, and hotels in a variety of price ranges.
The hotel is quiet, comfortable, and very conveniently located - less than 10 minutes walk from Kandersteg Station and about 15 minutes to the Oeschinensee gondola. The room was spacious and clean. Buffet breakfast included a variety of breads, spreads, cheeses, cold cuts, boiled eggs, fresh fruit, cereals (including house muesli and a gluten-free option), yoghurt, hot drinks, juices, milk, and plant-based alternative. Good Covid measures in place with a note at the reception stating all staff are fully vaccinated.
+ the view is amazing
+ 5 mins walk to oeschinensee
+ nearby mini market Volg, Coop
+ complete kitchen utilities (yes, we cook there)
+ amazing bed (master bedroom) I literally sleep so well at night
+ Fan in the room
+ 9 min walk from the Kandersteg Station / 3 mins by bus but we don’t take the bus during our trip :)
+ towel and shower gel
+ they gave us lots of freebies such as coffee capsule, chocolate, drink :) (yes they have coffee machine)
It was a great property in a beautiful location. There were breathtaking views from the window. It has plenty of spots for parking. The breakfast is a highlight of the stay as well. There are a lot of dining options nearby and a pretty walking trail just behind the property. If you are planning to explore this side of Switzerland, Kandersteg can be a great base for a peaceful stay, We had an amazing time at the property.
The hotel is very well located, is very comfortable and clean, the food is great and the best of all is the amazing service they have. They were very helpful during our stay, our dog was attacked by other during a hike and the hotel offer to transport us to the veterinary and were extremely helpful during the rest of our stay, thank you very much to the whole staff we will definitely be back.
This place just oozes historic charm! We’ve stayed here in winter & summer months and it’s lovely. If you’re looking for a place to rest your head in Kandersteg this is the place. The food consists of typical Swiss dishes, the rooms/beds are comfortable and you can use their sister hotel’s sauna/pool facilities across the street for free.
run by the owners who took a personal interest in the happiness of their guests. they provide guests with a card good for fee lift to the lake, free breakfast, and more personal services than any other hotel I’ve stayed in the hotel oozes charm and friendliness. it is clean and quiet with a great location. great breakfast.
Spacious cozy room with a balcony, clean, great breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant which also serves delicious dinner, staff was very friendly and caring.
Walking distance to Oeschinensee cable car and Kandersteg train station, grocery stores close-by, bus stop in front of the hotel.
The staff was absolutely fantastic! A warm welcome, extremely friendly and thoughtful service.
Dinner in the hotel restaurant was outstanding - don't rely on what you see on the printed menu. The kitchen had additionally vegan and vegetarian options which were fresh and superbly tasty!
We particularly enjoyed the balcony and the great, well-furnished kitchen for cooking in most evenings here. Having an assigned parking space was very helpful. The apartment is on the outskirts of Kandersteg but an easy walk in for groceries, lifts, and the train station.
Probably the best location of any hotel we ever been too, absolutely stunning surroundings. Don’t let stories about the difficult road there put you off, we drive a Vito van and it went up there perfectly fine. The staff were very kind and the food was great
Wonderful family-run hotel. The staff was exceptionally warm and helpful. The restaurant was fantastic; nothing fancy, very good value and the meals were delicious. Kandersteg is a beautiful small village with great access to the mountains.
You get what you pay for, a no frills stay in Kandersteg. The rooms are simple but good quality, everything was clean, bathroom was good, free parking onsite. We had a very nice dinner in their restaurant at night, breakfast was good.
Room was fine, the shower poor and uncomfortable. The location excellent, close to shopping and train station.
The Hungarian staff was extremely helpful, efficient and FRIENDLY.
Will come back to the Hotel as soon as we can.
Stunning old property. Well maintained. Large bar area, big breakfast room and lovely restaurant attached. The food is the restaurant was some of the best I have had in Switzerland. Very large portions.
So the room was huge. it could hold 4 people, it was the only thing available on booking. apparently they have smaller rooms as well which are cheaper. Location is great. Breakfast was good.
I liked the location in the village and all the people working in the hotel. You could tell that they cared about doing an excellent job, whether at the front desk or cleaning the rooms.
Staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is 10 minutes walk from the train station and not far away from the cable car going to Oeschinensee. Good breakfast, great restaurant.
Everything… the owners and the staff make you feel like home … excellent room facilities and excellent food … simply the best hotel in Switzerland
Than you very much
